This is a video from my visit to the capital of Malaysia , Kuala Lumpur.
The main feature of the town is the contrast. Modern highways, picturesque neighborhoods, mosques and Hindu temples , abundant greenery, traditional buildings and in the background skyscrapers of modern architecture. The trade mark of KL is the Petronas twin towers , impressive day and night.

Menara Kuala Lumpur is another well known icon beautifying the city's skyline with its rattle-shaped tower. It’s located on the north side of the protected rainforest Bukit Nanas. Air-conditioned vans transport for free the visitors from the park entrance to the base of the tower. Four high speed elevators lift you up to 276 meters height . With a height of 420 meters Menara is among the tallest telecommunication towers in the world, and the fact that it stands on a hilltop makes it the best view point in town.

A must see is the Batu caves. This limestone hill, which has a series of caves and cave temples, is is a tourist destination but also a religious destination and a sacred place for the Hindu's in Malaysia. If you go up the 272 stairs, you can meet a lot of long tailed-macaque monkeys. Some of these monkeys are very aggressive and may attack you when you carry something that might looks like foods to them. Some of the worshippers have problem to bring their offering safely up the stair without being harassed by the monkeys.
At the entrance of the cave , Hindu families were posing for a picture with a giant snake. The little boy of my video seems fairly terrified while the father is holding this big of a snake on him and the mother is turning the boy’s face to the photographer!

I enjoyed KL! Futuristic and traditional, the city has many faces and in each face there is an authentic Selamat Datang (Welcome)!

Pulau Langkawi (Langkawi Island) is the main of the 99 islands that make up this enchanting archipelago at the north-western tip of Malaysia and just south of Thai waters. All 99 islands of Langkawi were declared a Geopark by UNESCO in 2007.
Here you can visit a 450-million year old rainforest , misty caves and hilltops , some waterfalls , deep lakes , rice fielf and some nearby islands. The ocean is turquoise and the beaches white sands. Langkawi is clean, green and friendly , BUT the sea was not clear and the visibility in the water very poor..
The monkeys dominate the island , especially the forested areas.
Those furry little critters tend to grab and run off with your stuff. For the sake of a few "cute" photos, you might end up losing your camera!
According to folklore Langkawi’s name came from two Malay words – ‘helang’ (eagle) and ‘kawi' (reddish brown): hence lang-kawi. So the emblem of the island a large sculpture of an eagle poised to take flight , is located in eagle square and this is how my video starts:

traditional? Are you having a laugh? There can't be all that many more modern cities in the world of its size than Kuala Lumpur.

by way of illustration Chicago in the USA is an older city than Kuala Lumpur despite the fact that there was nothing there except a couple of Native American Indian villages before about 1800.

but KL trumps that easily. There was nothing there until the 1850s.

if you are looking for 'traditional' cities, try Europe, or the Middle East. It is there where you will find the best mix, of the contemporary and the old, or especially in the case of the Middle East, the contemporary and the truly ancient.

think about it. Even Bangkok, is a little kid. It was founded only in 1767. But Bangkok is an old boy, compared to Kuala Lumpur. Both of these are modern cities, and there is no two ways about it.
