Thank you Brian and everyone. I hope it doesn’t strike others. Some folks may be surprised to hear that Siliman Hospital was well-equiped to handle a stroke victim. There was no delay in giving me a CT-Scan and the correct meds and later a therapist. St. Peter’s will have to wait another time..
Praying for your fast recovery Pato, im sorry to hear that your going through such tough times but since im back it town sounds like ill be the one to buy you a bottle of wine once you have fully recovered. Just yell out! LOL take care!
Thanks for taking the time to post Pat. I wish you a good and full recovery. A heads up for others, we Men are slow to get checked out, blood pressure and cholesterol check, down now on my list. This will never happen to me syndrome just been proved wrong again, our genes come from way back, when life expectancy was not even 60 . I expect this has all not been free. Best luck to you Pat with kind Regards.. ps. Swimming might help if possible..
Pato, what were the first warning signs? weeks or days leading up to the horror day. I have been reading up a little in the past weeks myself.
Good question Brian. I started getting headaches on the side where the stroke would hit about a month before my first encounter, then one night about 3 weeks before I could not feel hot or hold with my left hand. Then the first mild stroke. In early September I was walking my dog up a hill and suddenly had no balance and was wobbling all over the place, but that only lasted about 10 seconds. i thought what was that, I stopped myself. No pain, no headache, I’m okay now so maybe I will go to the doctor after my little boy starts school the following week, but I didn’t go. I kept going to the gym but noticed my strength getting weaker. All this time the headaches were bad and I couldn’t sleep. Finally, on Sept 29 I took I felt sick and tried to take a nap. When I got up I had no balance or control. I told my wife to give me one more day, not knowing I either had another stroke or that small one I had was now possibly killing me. My father-in-law went to Bacong police and the ambulance came.
PatO, kudos for your sharing and concern for others during your difficult time. Good luck and our best wishes for a speedy recovery!
sorry to hear but seems like you are encouraging to the clueless or scared. My old friend Doc died at 90 last year and the year before, he came to cebu side of dumaguete across the straight for a few months...He told me that 15 years prior he had a stroke after open heart surgery and had been going strong with meds, ever since for well over a decade..He told me he stopped his meds a year or 2 before he died of stroke complications..he said to me that he stopped his anti stroke meds to go natural herbs and that he could feel the symptoms closing in on him as time went on but he said he didnt care and would rather the natural course to the end..He said the old meds do work but he didnt care any more...The strongest man i ever had as a friend and he left us all good life lessons,i would be lucky to live as long as he did...
Very sorry to hear about your stroke PatO but you have the background and character to defeat it. Thanks for the tips on the warning signs….Your posts have made me a true believer for one…(I'm sure there are others here on the forum who have converted). I've been lazily farting off the Lipitor tablets…supposed to be every night….lucky if I've been taking one a week last couple years. Bloody oath, it's every night now! You made me a believer... My doctor says red wine is as bad or worse, than any other alcoholic drink for raising cholesterol levels…livers dislike it as much or more than other drinks….and in protest pump out the cholesterol and other lipids….Of course I don't always follow his advice…LOL….but I certainly am cutting back….a lot. All the best for a speedy and full recovery. You're still young enough and tough enough to pull that off!
