Dumaguete City, the capital of Negros Oriental, has achieved an 89.3 percent tourism influx growth rate in 2013, with a total of 393,718 tourists registered for that year as opposed to 214,052 in 2012, statistics show. Emaleen Franz Maputi, Tourism Operations Assistant, quoted City Tourism Officer Woodrow Maquiling Jr. on Thursday as saying that among the reasons why the city achieved this growth was an increase in the number of tourism arrivals as well as Dumaguete City's hosting of numerous national conventions and sporting events in 2013. Records show that in 2013, the overall number of foreign citizens who visited Dumaguete was 47,919 compared to also 26,504 in the previous year, or a growth rate of 80.8 percent, Maquiling said. March recorded the highest number of foreign tourist arrivals at 5,612 while in October of the same year there were only 1,837 foreign visitors, the City Tourism Office said. Visitors from the United States topped the list of tourists in Dumaguete last year, followed by those from Germany, Australia, Canada, Japan, United Kingdom, Korea, France, China, and Switzerland, records show. On local tourists or Philippine residents, Dumaguete marked an increase of 89.7 percent growth in 2013 with a total of 344,810 visitors compared to 2012 with only 181,781. April had the most number of local tourists at 41,246 while October had the least at 25,444. Maquiling expressed optimism of a sustained trend in the increase of tourist arrivals for this year. He said tourism development should be treated as a challenge to continue to strive for a better tourism industry under the leadership of Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria”.*JFP DAILY STAR: Negros Oriental Larry
Naturally, this is due in no small part to Dumaguete being a city of serenity nestling in a sea of tranquillity, and the province epitomises the very essence of public health and hygiene. The visitor can explore the whole province in general, and the city in particular, on smooth, safe, pothole free roads, and meet knowledgeable, law-abiding and courteous drivers on the way. It is truly a magnet for those who wish to rest and re-charge their body batteries, and unquestionably lives up to its' title of "The City of Gentle People", where robberies, muggings, stabbing and shooting never take place, and on the rare occasions when such horrors are committed by outsiders, they are always solved and the perpetrators immediately brought to justice without delay. One of its greatest claims to fame is that it is entirely free of illegal substances. Should you wish to enter any tourist attraction where an entrance fee is payable, you will be charged exactly the same as a local. Price gouging and advantage taking is frowned upon, because your presence is highly valued. When you arrive here at either the seaport or airport, you will be met by smiling well-mannered people who will carry your luggage, offer helpful advice, and arrange for you to be transported to your hotel in immaculately preserved vehicles, roadworthy and safe, with responsible drivers who obey all traffic laws for your safety and well-being, and will refuse a tip claiming that they are happy to have been of service. You can dine al fresco in any number of establishments along the pristine boulevard without being disturbed by noisy traffic and Ceres bus horns, nor choked by fume belching antiquated trucks, and as you dine you will never, ever, be hustled and hassled by street traders or beggars, which seems to be endemic in other cities. This is a place of good manners, where pedestrians give way to each other on the obstacle free sidewalks, and people do not bump into you because they are looking at their cell phone instead of looking where they are going. On the rare occasions when such a collision does happen, you are offered an immediate apology and a heart-warming smile. When entering a restaurant here, all cell phones are immediately switched off, as people like to enjoy across-the-table conversations while dining with friends, instead of spending two hours staring at facebook, never saying a word to each other, and if small children are present, they are so well supervised that you hardly know they are there. Blissful joy in an Oriental paradise. You will not want to leave, so go along to a super efficient office and extend your stay without any effort. In fact, stay for as long as your money holds out, and when it is time to leave, you will not have to go to another city on another island and ask for permission to depart. Brr Brr Brr - Goddam alarm clock. Wow, that was one hell of a dream, but I'm awake now and back in the land of reality.
This morning a gentlemen representing the Department of tourism came to ask some few infos. One of those concerns i raised are those Horrible Disturb dogs that are cage and leashed by locals that barks all the time! Roosters thats crows like on Shabu/Meth! STupid idiots young boys with noisy muffler! Poteholes everywhere! And blah blah blah....blah! And my last note was- Good thing we have this sexy slim beautiful young filipinas otherwise we will not have this foreigners.
I have been traveling the new and beautiful Bacong-Sibulan highway and therefore missing all the highlights mentioned by Broadside. It speaks highly of the powers here that they built the highway instead of the allocated funds disappearing….
About three years ago they finished cementing the section of highway from Hypermart about a KM toward Valencia. Since the highway further toward Valencia is in such terrific condition, and they apparently have to use their new asphalt machine somewhere, they are now asphalting over the top of the new concrete! Now where else could DPWH be so efficient? Larry
maybe, we will get some news about the promised Public Conveniences, you know, ones with actual seats and Functioning Sinks and Taps ( Faucets) The ones at the end of the Boulevard are somewhat dated now and in need of a little TLC. If Mr Mayor can sort this out, then Dumaguete can and may, stand above the rest
Broudside, you hit it right on the head.. i have beeen thinking this for 31 years here and you finaly put it down, in proper English,, anyway a little sarcasm.. but thats what is needed.. these dudes should read this and find out where they gotta go to sort it out.. the problem is they can copy other country's but no,,,, here they gotta reinvent the wheeel... and thats why its so f&#ked up
if only mr mayor would read these posts he would not stick his head out in public, he should be very very embarrassed with his role as mayor in his great city.
Actually they do for the most part copy other countries, the problem is by the time they do so the idea is at least 50 years obsolete. Any new ideas since Magellan landed are quickly dismissed as a "stupid foreigner" thing. Larry
that's the only reason i'm here, it's not only that i find her (the little woman) cuter than a bugs ear but she's the most loving, affectionate, caring woman a guy could ever want to hook up with. going on three years and still one the honeymoon. norm : ))~
