I respect the man for what he has done to make Davao safe, but think he may be getting a little out of control himself. I'm not so sure that the punishment for "rice smuggling" should be execution by goons on a motorcycle, seems kind of extreme. What's next, seriously, executing smokers? Late for work? Dumaguete could certainly use a touch of his style though. Larry
let's count, 4 murdered so far this month, 30-odd in the last year. How many have overdosed & died from the proscribed substances themselves, any? Appears to be all about the money. &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& Free the Nipple
This was bound to happen. Did they really think the gangs were just going to sit back and take it? When you take up a "war on drugs" in reality you are declaring a war on gangs.......and they have guns too.
He hasn't offed any rice smugglers (yet), he just said he would. Smuggling rice sounds innocent compared to a lot of other things but from what I gather there's more to it than that. Anyway I think having a big stick and being known to swing it may make those that have been warned reason to pause and reflect. Coming from the car theft capital of the US I especially liked it when Duterte offered a reward for a prolific Davao car thief and upped the ante for anyone bring his head on ice .. which when questioned the mayor said he was only joking when he said that .. uh huh Just my .02 On a side note I heard today that Dumaguete's upper echelon is "talking" about doing something about the obnoxiously loud motorbikes around town. I can only hope.
A quieter Dumaguete? Maybe less gun noise too... Talking is a start but.... It seems like the louder the motorcycle the smaller the engine. As much as a I dislike the noise, it is a "safety factor" also, seems like the louder the motorcycle the more likely the driver is driving faster than the flow of traffic and moving erratically about like crazy bee through traffic. The added noise does gives me a warning those type of drivers are coming up on me, even when coming from the rear. I would be happy to give up the "safety factor" for a little more peace and quiet here though.
Yeah Dave and another thing I'd love to see them do is crack down on the idiots running around with no lights. Pull them over and if they find lights are functional cite them, and send them to impound if they aren't. I've nearly been taken out more than a few times by the phantoms of the night.
