    Have to agree Nice Sherwood….my wife is also a nurse for several years and did her training here in Oz(Perth)…..Different world. I don't knock the nurses in the Philippines…from my experience they do their best and are very pleasant and help as much as they can….But the educational and technological levels between the average Filipino hospital and the average Aussie hospital….It's like different planets…It does make us wonder whether the a move there is in our best interests when we retire….We have it pretty good here….in many ways…The cost of living is the only real difference of note...

    When I did my internship at a nursing home at first I had no idea where to start and how everything works. Take it for example, I noticed that until now when lifting a patient here it takes 2-3 nurses to do the job while back in Sydney I could use a lifter and lift a guy let's say over 100lbs easy and with less hassle but thinking back I've learnt quick the aussie way since you only do like an hour or two a day discussion then you'll have to do it either on your own or with assistance
    Everything Gets absorbed quickly by the brain too rather than memorising all the lines for quizzes and not be able to completely understand how the the thing works
    Filipinos are booksmart, they spent hours and hours studying but unfortunately theyre lack of skills and I blame it.to.the corrupt.government.since all.the funds that's.meant.to.be put aside for government facilities.and equipments are.not.reach to.where they're supposed to be. I can't.say Filipinos are stupid they are smart and they most.of.them are determined.to.work.regardless.of how tough and.dirty the job is,most are even.desperate just as long as they have a job to sustain their family.unfortunately they have to.work.the hard way since employers.here.are not.taught well.or.don't.offer proper equipments to expedite the job which I.believe is.stupid.because in.overseas time.is.money
    money because workers get paid.in hourly.basis.while.here it's a daily basis.so most government.workers.are sitting.in.their.fat arses not.doing.they're.job and I don't think they care much at all, who would if you get shitty pay to start with?

    A job of one person in overseas is a job of 3-4 here because of the lack of skills plus common sense

    The problem in the Philippines is the "Right of Tenure" which means you can't be run off even if you are complete idiot. ( which most politicians fall into) I have worked for an International Company which i have an ageement with which gives me 30 days notice both ways , them or me to terminate my employment.Simple explanation, Don't do your job you are run off. Simple.. here it takes 20 years of court cases at least so who cares.. And if you steal big money no problem because who is gonna chase you, they are all buddy's in the same crime;

    Nice Sherwood…….my wife, as a nurse, would be happy to see a 100lb patient….However,what she does get a lot of - is heavy, or obese patients. In fact, an obese patient fell on her while she was leading the lady down the hall to the elevator…just a few days ago…and now she has another back injury. It's improving….but I have to say given the growing weight of Australian adults….only a matter of time - and she will have an injury that is permanent. I'd say we are giving the US a real contest for fattest major country in the world….since I travel to the US regularly - and seeing less of a difference every time…
    Anyway, I agree with your comments regarding the Filipino talents in the area. I regularly listen to NHK in Tokyo and they are fast and furiously hiring more Filipinos to assist with aged care, hospital orderlies..etc. The Japanese (my very favourite place to visit - wish the Emperor would give us a resident visa LOL - we would fly there tomorrow) probably have the highest standards in the world…so their keen hiring of Filipinos to assist with caring for their people….obviously means they are happy with the standard!

    As this thread is about unemployment, I have to say that the Japanese have a problem with that as well and the reason for them to employ Filipinos is just the way the Philippines Government had planned it, they will happily supply hard working, low payed workers all over the globe...

    The export item #1...

    Philippine employment is high ONLY because the rich who control the country wish to keep it that way. As long as unemployment stays sky high they can get cheap labor that will work for near nothing (or in some cases nothing at all). They created an atmosphere where NO competition other then among themselves and when they allow something new in that is not controlled by them they have a tight noose on it and when they figure out how to turn a profit with it they strangle out the then competition using the government they control.

    On Sugar Cane fields one reason as well they don't use machines is there are families who for generations have been sugar cane workers and EXPECT they are the ones to harvest and then get paid for it. If a cane farmer tries to use machines and cut out on the laborers who expect they have that job more then likely overnight a fire will break out (accident of course) and to try and save anything he better hire those workers to save the little he can.

    Now IF the Philippines wanted to fix its unemployment problem simple fix is tearing up the high import/export tariffs and allow foreigners to own 100% of the business w/o hassles. Plenty of opportunity for foreign business's to thrive here IF we wouldn't have to worry on 60% of our business being filipino owned who's likely looking at a way to take 100% ownership soon as they can learn how to manage it our way. Ad in manufacturing to the mix which would be a great place if not for hard import/export problems among other things.

    Easy fix... but it means that those at the top won't be running the show anymore.
