In the movies I often see 'fund raiser' dinners. Sounds like something that may work. If one sponsor was to put up free pizza and beer to the people who attended to donate (or invest - you decide) 3,000 pesos then you would see who is willing to step up and 'put their money where their mouth is' :dnr:
There is another good possibility here that has as yet not been mentioned, fundraising through advertisers. If we could come up with 20 advertisers willing to pay for a years advertising up front (p20,000 per year), we would pretty much be there. We have added three new advertisers already since January, without help much from anyone, however, they were only wanting to pay monthly, but two were able to be talked into paying quarterly. Due to the way this website has been run into the ground the past 2-3 years, one cannot blame advertisers for being leary of forking out for a years advertising, but if we could show backing and support of a group, ads would not be such a tough sell. Probably many could come up with at least one potential advertiser. This also would help to insure everyone gets a return on their investment. Ok, so maybe a combination of advertisers and investors...?
This has garnered much more interest than I thought it would, we now have potential pledges that put us well on the way to achieve our goal. Maybe later this week we could have a small get together, wherein I would show the past stats and numbers and future potential of the site. Does anyone have any input on a time and venue? We are open to most any time. Larry
I think a combo of donations, investors and advertisers. Whatever works for getting to the goal. This makes things a bit more complex, but we are really just at the brainstorming stage right now anyways. Larry, maybe you start making suggestions for a place to meet since you know the nooks and crannies better than we do. Most of the places I go to wouldn't make for a good meeting spot. I would like to meet at a place which is open, lots of space, quiet and decently close. Hayahay is close and pretty much empty during the day. We could get a "treehouse" area to ourselves without even planning ahead. I'm definitely in and it would be interesting to see what you have to show. If you think it would be helpful, we could come up with something to show where we are at and how far we would need to go. Maybe setup a dedicated page for it with an "I'm interested" button and a progress indicator. The general idea might be something along the lines of Kickstarter. https://www.kickstarter.com/ I could help set this up or anything else that you think might be helpful.
Great link, Dude, and excellent suggestions. Let's tentatively set a date for Friday at 1 at Hayahay. If anyone is interested and this time/place is not good for you, please let us know so we can make other arrangements soon. Many people do not read the board every day, so setting a date in advance is important.
You might try setting up a Paypal account for DumagueteInfo….let us know what the email address is for it….and see what flows into it. Put a notice on the front page requesting donations - or whatever you think is appropriate - and preferred currency and see what happens…. A Hawaiian music online station I regularly listen to does the same…Hawaiianrainbow.com….and every once in a while I send Rich Shipley a few dollars via Paypal to keep it going. It's only fair…..
