Fresh from the the bamboo telegraph. Yesterday two girls on a scooter were hit by a Ceres bus in Siaton. One dead, other not far behind. No further details at this time.
I have put on alot of miles in different countries...the Ceres bus drivers here are by far the most irresponsible, insane drivers I have ever seen...something needs to be done about their total disregard of everyone else they "share" the roads with.
We have put a lot of miles in THIS country. You should ride some of the cheaper bus lines here, such as the Philippine Rabbit and the mini buses out of Cebu. The Ceres drivers, especially the AC buses, are some of the mellowest and safest bus drivers in the country. Ride some of the others and you will be a believer! Ceres gets in more accidents simply because the have more buses on the road than anyone else. Larry
I agree with that the Ceres drivers of an aircon bus do show more respect and generally stick to traffic rules. The problem however Ceres has a lot more Economy buses of which the drivers are complete lunatics considering the way they go around. I bet my 5 cents that the Ceres bus in Siaton that hits the 2 girls was 99,9999% an Economy one.
Sunday morning between Maayong Tubig and Dauin, early morning a group of 5 Joggers aged around 17 years old were run over by a medium sized delivery van heading towards Dumaguete, one killed and several wounded, the driver left the truck behind and run...No brake marks, probably full asleep...
I do a lot of jogging while I'm there. but it's mainly up the Mountain Roads out of Bacong near San Miguel. When I have to get back on the Highway I always make sure I run on the opposite side of the road towards the oncoming traffic. At least this way I have a slim chance of getting out of the sleeping truck drivers way, Crazy Bus Drivers Dangerous passing manouvers or whatever eratic drivers I may encounter. It always saddens Me to hear stories like this because You never know if one Day it could be You or one of Your Family Members involved. My Condolences go out to the Loved Ones of these Families....
What would and does frustrate Me, if a lowlife with his unpaid for and unmaintained vehicle, without license and/or registration and/or insurance, hurts or kills somebody and there is no way to get any compensation for the victims...
I always try to get a Ceres bus and follow him. The fastest and safest way to get from A to B. They clear the road... Talking about Jogger or runner how they call themselves nowadays. With all respect, but there is a group in Dumaguete each thursday, starting at Portal West, at 7 pm. Instead of running north along Hibbard towards the airport and less crowded streets, they run to the Boulevard, but not on the waterfront, but in the middle of the street, 3-5 person wide and maybe 3 out of 10 have a old strobe. would not be surprised if one day some of them get chopped down.wouldn't feel sorry also... same with skater, had one crash landing at 10 pm at LEE plaza right in front of me, but got my car just from inspection and the breaks where working fine, so the guy was lucky. Wouldn't they have the whole capitol area for their stunts?
A friend of mine was in Cebu last week and travelled on Ceres, they were on the bendy bit on south Cebu, the next thing the bus is travelling sideways and narowly missed going over the edge. The next thing the driver runs out of the bus and drags a poor old guy back up from a steep drop as he had hit him and knocked him over. My friend gave him what for when he got back in the bus and all the locals just sat there stunned! The guy was driving like a tw@t.
