NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Philippines – Three members of the same family were killed when a computer crazed addict stabbed them dead at their internet cafe in Isabela, Negros Occidental last weekend. Killed were 57-year-old Ricardo Carpentero, 59-year-old Consuelo Carpentero (his wife), and their 23-year-old son, Carlo. The family’s 25-year-old daughter, Sheila Mae was stabbed but survived after being brought to a local hospital for treatment of her stab wounds. Carlo’s seven-year-old son was unharmed in the attack after he hid under the bed during the rampage which occurred at the family’s home in Baraangay Consalongon. The young boy told police he was awakened by the commotion and saw the killing first hand – he told police he hid from the attacker for fear of his own life. Local police say 27-year-old Jemar Carpio fled the scene of the murders, leaving behind the weapon and a pair of slippers. In investigation into the matter shows that Carpio does not pay every time he plays an online game at the family’s internet shop. The investigation revealed that the night before the killing, Carlo asked Carpio to vacate the computer he was using as a group of paying teenagers wanted to use it. The suspect vacated the computer but returned at 1:30 a.m. that night asking the owners to allow him to use the computer – Carlo refused him as it was closing time for the cafe. Carpio abruptly left the cafe, and returned armed with a bladed weapon and stabbed Carlo. When Ricardo came to check on the commotion, the suspect stabbed him in the chest with the same bladed weapon. He then entered the family home and stabbed Sheila Mae and Consuelo, who was able to run outside and scream for help. The suspect fled the scene of the crime, leaving behind the 15-inch knife he used to kill the three family members, hurting the fourth. Police say that Carloa died at the scene, while Ricardo and Consuelo died while being taken to a nearby hospital. An update on today’s news-wire says the suspect has surrendered to authorities.
