Excuse me for mentioning this but I was so Surprised that there was no mention of the 4th of July at all yesterday, I really was under the Impression that this date meant a lot to Americans. I only mention it as in years Past there have been Threads raised as they are with your Thanksgiving Anyway, any of Our Cousins that did Celebrate, I trust & hope you all had a good Day
Maybe we see it as a hollow holiday now with the current governments attacks on freedom and liberty in our country. It used to be my favorite holiday but now it just seems to feel like a lie as we no longer have independence to run our own country. That's just me though.
Oh I can Totally Understand that, the UK will go through the same thing No Doubt. Just thought I would mention it that's all
Wait, it's July? Hmm, I thought it was November or September.....or maybe April? Guess that explains why I was getting invites to places at odd hours of the day. (Who in their right mind would go somewhere to eat or drink around lunchtime? Us normal folk are trying to get our beauty sleep.) It's also kinda hard to keep track of what month it is when all you have for seasons here are "wet" and "not so wet". The only thing I concern myself with is what day of the week it is.
These days I treat the 4th of July like Memorial Day, more a time for quiet reflection than celebration.
My view of the 4th of July is like Memorial day. I think of the freedoms that used to be celebrated on the 4th as dead and gone like my brothers in arms that I memorialize on Memorial day. I spent the last 25 years in San Diego where I saw at July 4th celebrations all over Southern Ca. more Mexican flags and Viva Mexico signs than American Flags. I witnessed after the first Iraq war El Cajon Ca. completely over run by Iraqi refugees shipped in and given tax payer money to buy up everything. Now That small city is referred to as little Iraq. Now in SoCal flying the American flag is considered insulting to people from other countries so political leaders are forcing people to remove them from their houses. There is even a movement to force a ban on singing the anthem at sporting events. It is going to get uglier before it gets any better. I feel the American Culture is dying in this age of open borders and Globalism.
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY! Still lots of fireworks and a big deal in my mind. The US isn't perfect and maybe it's lost some of it's luster but I'm still proud to say I'm an American.
Cabb, I feel your sentiments towards being an American. I did not leave my country, My country left me. More accurately my country in essence forced me out. I still have hopes for an eventual return to Honor, God and Country but I'm not holding my breath waiting.
No need to apologize as I'm not offended. It actually sounds like I have offended you, so I apologize, although it was not done intentionally. There is was no attempt to ridicule you and I resent you suggesting it. Maybe my example, hit close to home, but it was not personal as I don't know you. I just wanted to understand the reasoning behind your opinion and shared mine, along with one of the many reasons for it. I'm not trying to convince you and your aren't trying to convince me. There are lots of things I don't know and I readily admit that. You are certainly entitled to your privacy, hence I said if it's not too personal. Why couldn't you have just left it without a negative comment? I think that would have been a good indicator that you felt me nose was in the wrong place. If you felt the need to respond how about a positive response like, yes it's a personal issue I'd rather not discuss?
If I was currently in Dumaguete, I'd certainly celebrate with a cheeseburger and fries at Happy Jacks! Sadly though I'm stuck in UAE, so celebrated with some hummus and salad... :( I too have pretty much given up hope on America due to the crappy government, politically correct baloney and minority rights being above and beyond reason.
