Ten 7-11 stores eyed in Dumaguete-VDS NEWS The 7-11 chain of convenience stores is eyeing the establishment of 10 additional branches in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, next year as part of its expansion in Central Visayas, Gil Abad, head of the company’s Regional Operation for the Visayas, said yesterday. Abad, who was with Jose Victor Paterno, president and chief executive officer of the Philippine Seven Corporation, operator of 7-11 in the Philippines, at the opening of their three stores in Bacolod City yesterday, said they are searching for partners for this endeavor. PSC is investing P50 million for all the 10 branches to be established in Dumaguete and is looking to hire eight or 10 personnel for each store. Paterno said they are expanding in Dumaguete because they see that their store has a market in the city. He said they started venturing in the Visayas region by opening seven stores in Cebu in July last year. Aside from being a convenience store, 7-11 has expanded its food service offerings with a proprietary line of deli items and baked goods, and also accepts payments for utility bills. Other than the Philippines, 7-11 licensees and affiliates operate in more than 46,090 stores in 17 countries, like Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Mexico, Singapore, Australia, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. LOL, reminds me a little bit of an old Steven Wright joke, also applicable to the Philippines experience: "I went down the street to the 24-hour grocery. When I got there, the guy was locking the front door. I said, "Hey, the sign says you're open 24 hours." He said, "Yes, but not in a row."
We have a chain like this back home called "spar", they always have some great offers to get people in the shops especially on wine. I doubt that will happen here though!
Unfortunately, the 7-11 we went used in Manila was nothing more than all the other convenience stores. They sold the same chips, drinks, and candies as everyone else. Sorry, no slurpees!! The only advantage was the ability to pay some bills there.
We can get the mango flavor right here in NYC 7-11s. (We probably have more Filipinos living in Queens than there are in Dumaguete.) Haven't seen buko, though.
The 7-11s in Cebu are more similar to the US, with a variety of fastfood not available elsewhere, burritos, US style hotdogs, imported beers, (Coors light at P30), etc... as well as Filipino fastfoods, rice bowls, etc... Nothing in Duma compares. Larry
