An American man died while three others were injured in an accident along the national road of barangay Tunga, Moalboal town, southern Cebu last Friday. Eric Kemsuzian, 51, was thrown to the pavement when the motorcycle he was driving hit another motorcycle driven by Soren Borado, 43. Kemsuzian’s live-in partner, Geraldine Tibalado, who was pillion riding, was also hurt. The two motorcycles were heading to the Poblacion when the accident happened at around 6 p.m. Investigators said Borado, who was with a certain Marvin Lagada, slowed down and signaled to turn left but Kemsuzian who was behind him attempted to overtake. Police took the victims to the Badian District Hospital where Kemsuzian died an hour later. Source: American killed in Moalboal road accident | Cebu Daily News
Sad news. I didn't know the guy, but I looked him up and see that he used Twitter, Google+ and Facebook. Looks like he was settling into a new phase of his life after his wife lost a battle with cancer. It's strange reading an old post talking about plans of moving to the Philippines and knowing the guy will die a year later. I'm sure that had he stayed in the U.S. he likely wouldn't have taken up driving motorcycles (or not ridden as often) and the hospital might have saved him. I don't drive here. It actually seems strange to me that so many people coming from the U.S. to live here don't get cars. They are pretty much a necessity in the U.S. but then everyone becomes a motorcycle driver here. Cars are a terrible option here though. Finding parking would be a pain in the @ss. But why drive a motorcycle when you can get a pedicab so easily? They can be a pain in the @ss to deal with also, but I pretty much never have a problem finding one. Driving is convenient, but so is staying crash free. I could name of a list of names for days of people who have crashed motorcycles here.
yes a car is the best option, and yes finding a car parking space is a pain in the butt, as the motor cycle riders park where the cars should park, I guess too tight to pay the parker guy p1, in the above accident Eric if driving a car would be I am sure still alive, but for the bike he overtook I guess a sad experience for them.
I've been here 9 years and use pedicabs and never have come close to a accident no repairs no $5.00 gasoline...no flat tires no maintenance if I have to travel outward there are many options and I don't have to worry about killing someone passing me on the right side driving a motorcycle...............
the trouble is your choice of travel is the problem on the streets, those dam padicabs, turn when and where they want, more often full of people, I have seen accidents with them on the north of this island, its no fun trying to get around one of those dam things doing 20km on the national hwy
