I'm planning on ordering a laptop from the US and having it shipped to Dumaguete via a Balikbayan box (much cheaper than local). I don't have much else that I need, and the box should have plenty of space so I just figured I'd see if anyone in town needed anything to be shipped here so we could share costs. I'm hoping to have the shipment sent in the next week or 2. I guess if you were interested, you could have something sent to my parents place in the Chicago area, they could put it all in the box, and then once it's delivered, I'd give you your items. I'm not shady, and not looking to profit from this transaction or anything, just looking to be economical. I'm happy to meet in person as well if you want before you make an order. Just let me know if you are interested.
You might want to check with the local post office they have boxes $65.00 sent here... and some little more your computer should fit easily and it gets here in 10 days
Be careful when shipping here as customs may clobber you, I got caught sending a second hand laptop here and the robbing _ _ _ caught me for p10,000. Nothing o could do as was in the UK.
I had heard that there is less chance of customs charging fees for balikbayan boxes, do you think there is any validity to that?
Chapter VII. Balikbayan Boxes | Department of Finance: Bureau of Customs Not sure if they consider a laptop a "personal use" item.
What happens on the receiving end? Are there services that will receive and temporarily store your stuff for a reasonable cost? Sent from my SM-T320 using Tapatalk
Electronics last year were charged 22$ on the shipping end, cheap if that includes a laptop. I shipped a inkjet printer was was misaligned and pretty much worthless when it arrived. I also was charged in Dec 1700p for a electronic password security device for online banking when it got to customs. Personally I would not ship a laptop
Most Balikbayan Box shippers have a arranged schedule of Philippine Customs fees. LBC charges $9.00 for a laptop: http://lbcshippingcart.ph/tax Unfortunately as a laptop includes a battery it can not avail of air cargo shipment (10-15 days) and must travel by sea. Last month we sent some pricey PC graphics cards by air and no custom duty was charged. Looking at shippers websites I've seen none limiting box values to $500 and seldom do we came in under that number, particularly in sea shipments.
