the Belonio-Olivier gasifier stove is a cooking stove that uses rice husks for fuel and produces biochar while producing minimal polluting out gasses. the following was recently posted on stoves@lists.bioenergylists.org 2 October 2014 Dumaguete City, Philippines subject: gasifier stoves, biochar, ecological sanitation An ambitious attempt is underway in Dumaguete City to promote gasifier-stoves in the public market to replace (totally ban or reduce use of) open fire (polluting wood) stoves and expensive bottled gas stoves. The (bio)char is intended to be collected for use as a replacement for the expensive deodorizing agent for 1) the water-less urinals of the public pay toilets in the public market, and 2) the city garbage dumps to reduce its PhP10 million annual budget for odor control. The city market manager, an engineer, has been introduced to the Belonio-Olivier gasifier stove, and plans to have Paul's 150 gasifier reactor fabricated locally (using the modified Belonio burner from Vietnam.) Engineer Fortin's efforts in waste-conversion technologies have the support of the City Mayor who has allowed him time to interface with Paul Olivier in Vietnam.
