Recently and it is occurring more frequently, in the last 6 months my niece has been robbed while traveling on a easy ride. These so called robbers or 'hold uppers' as what the locals call them are more risk taking than ever. Traveling from Dumaguete to Tanjay the easy ride pulled over to pick up a customer as usual who happened to be a robber who emptied everyones bags for money and other useful things. This is happening more frequently and the locals in the area are now catching the Ceres liners.....safety in numbers so to speak. They are all worried about how things have changed in their once peaceful area. Also the owner of the bank of Amlan was sh*t and killed robbed of 2 million pesos - unconfirmed but spoken frequently by the locals in the area. There has also been hold ups in the areas of Sibulan. So just be wary out there people!
Sorry, sh*t should have been shot....no spell checker on iPad....the'i was next to the 'o'.... Informed That they actually had a gun....normally the areas of Amlan, tandayag and tampi barangays are a really close community. I guess crime will appear in any barangay from the north or south, but criminal activity like this is very rare in these parts of negros
I wish its not sabotage with the local enforcers... I always saw check point sign boards but no local police or military around...similar to local traffic enforcers...just standing at the side of the road sometimes doing chismis or leaning the wall or out of post, in spite of the middle of heavy traffic....lol!
Up here the problem is in the busses, the busses gets robbed frequently between Manila and the northern cities. Long stretch of Highway where police can not easily come to the rescue so a few robbers step in to the bus and empty everybody out. I NEVER take the bus up here as I could imagine being the only (or one of the only) Caucasians in the bus would get me singled out to make the risk even higher of something bad to happen. So for me, the only way to go up here is renting cars or having your own vehicle. Problem in jeepneys up here are mostly pickpockets, I lost my passport to a pickpocket on the way home from Immigration where I did my Visa extrension one day about 10 years ago and haven't used a jeepney since either...
Coincidence or not. Used a jeepney twice in Cagayan de Oro some years ago. First time they pickpocketed my Nokia cellphone. Second time they got my key ring with an USB stick. So for me no more jeepneys or any other kind of public transport specially when you add the new risk of getting robbed.
Expect everything worst when riding a bus (expect a plastic chairs in the middle and passenger standing for hours) / jeepney (expect a wooden chair in the middle and stops longer/ v-hire (expect good for 3 people row sit could turn into 4-5 people sitting / Taxi ( expect additional fees, specially airport taxi, there's no place like Philippines...Lol!
