The Consul and some of his staff from the British Embassy Manila are considering coming to Dumaguete for an outreach clinic. These gatherings have been held successfully in other parts of the country and can be very informative and helpful. The date and location has yet to be determined, but would probably be somewhere like the Bethel. These clinics take the form of the Consul explaining what the Embassy does, what the Consulate does, what it can do for you if there is a problem, etc. The staff will also set up help desks, where you can have a private one-to-one conversation if you have particular questions, or need things clarifying (i.e. Visas, CNIs', registering marriages and births etc). Because of its' close proximity, British expats living on Siquijor will also be invited to attend. Whether this takes place or not will obviously depend on the level of interest shown beforehand. It would be a waste of time, effort and money for the staff to make the journey to Dumaguete, hire a conference facility, and then find that they were giving a presentation to one man and his dog. So I would appreciate some feed back as I need to give the Embassy some numbers, however approximate. If this is of interest to you and you would attend, please let me know any way you can, by email, private message on this forum, text, or just stop me if you see me out and about and tell me yes or no. I can then collate some figures and let Manila know whether it is viable or not. Naturally not all British expats are readers or contributors of this forum, so if you know of any who are not, I would very much appreciate it if you would pass this information on to them, canvass their opinion and then let me know the response. In the meantime, I will spread the message further afield within the Province and also try to put some flyers in the Immigration Office so that those passing through, be they temporary or permanent, will know about it. Thanks in advance for your (hopeful) participation. Roger
Roger, you might want to give a press release to Negros Chronicle. Ely was very helpful last time and placed her visit on the front page. A lot of expats do read this paper . Also bars and resto were happy to put up posters , as was hypermart. presumably robinsons have a community billboard somewhere. Grant
Thanks Grant. I've got a rough draught for a press release, but can't go forward with it until Manila give me a firm date.
Bump. Response has been a bit limited. There is some interest from Brits who are not readers of this forum, and some from as far afield as Bayawan to the south and Bais north. Don't know if it is enough to warrant a visit by the Manila staff. Last request for any interest before I give some figures to Manila at the end of the week.
Bump Bump. The consular section from the British Embassy Manila still have their intended visit to Dumaguete on their agenda. The latest date being talked about is 16/17 May, but still has to be confirmed. Once again I would ask for anyone who is interested in attending, or who would like a private one-to-one with the staff, to let me or Grant (Barkada) know. The selected venue will be dependant on the anticipated numbers who say they will attend, with a bit of leeway. Could any Brits who read this please pass the info on to any other Brits who are not members of this forum. Once the date and venue have been confirmed, flyers will be put around the town and an advert placed in the local paper. Roger
I have heard a strong rumor the British Embassy will gather all you Brits and ship you off to Australia.
Resurrecting an old thread. Heads up for British people here and on Siquijor. Staff from the British Consulate Manila intend to visit Dumaguete 26/27 June. This consists of two consular officers, but not the Consul himself. The plan, (after they have done the usual round of hospitals, police, immigration, jail, et al) is to hold an open clinic on Friday 27th June from 1600-1800hrs where they can answer questions on a variety of issues, such as birth marriage and death, CNI, registration in UK, some legal matters, etc. Please note that they do not deal with visas or pension/banking/financial issues. The actual location of where the clinic will be held has not been decided yet, but it will be in central Dumaguete for ease of access for those who wish to attend (refreshments provided). I know that these visits have been mooted before and for a variety of reasons didn't happen, so further details will come from me when they have confirmed their flights.
