My wife when through the CFO process before coming to the USA. Seems odd that it would be required for a vacation. I thought it was just for the spousal/fiance and OFW stuff. Does every Filipina who goes on a foreign vacation have to do this?

"Have to", no. Since this is the Philippines and laws and regulations are left up to individual interpretation instead of maintaining a policy so it doesn't matter where you go you get the same answer. It is possible that going ahead and getting the certificate can help mitigate problems with Philippine Immigration, especially for Filipinas under 25 leaving the country for the first time. Immigration can, and does deny Filipinas from leaving the country, breaking hearts and ruining vacations apparently on a daily basis.

The resorts and hotels in Cambodia are not providing the same level of difficulty. The hardest part is figuring out which 5 star spa resort to book at $30-50/night (staying in a upscale resort for 3 nights while doing the Angkor Wat/touristy stuff). The nice hotels near Pub Street (going to do 4 nights here) are around $10-20/night. Everything I'm looking at has great reviews and say the service is amazing. Hard to pick one.

Do you know/have you talked to Paul (owns another forum, lives in Cambodia I think, while I am thinking he might also have a Cambodia forum) never looked into it but you are making me curious...

I am a member of both his forums and have spoke with him about Cambodia in the past. (I'm a lurker in the Cambodia forum as most of my questions have already been asked and answered.)

I'm also hoping to go before late May- I did find a nice TripAdvisor article " Avoid the crowds at Angkor trip report" from 28 August 2013 that gives detailed info on when to visit individual spots to avoid the tours-- I used a similar technique(and visited mid week---lol) when I went to Sukothai/Si Sitchanali in Thailand--

If there's a time that the Chinese don't go on vacation, that's the best time.

I sure hope you enjoy your time in Cambodia. I know I did!

I can't remember the name of the 5-star I stayed at, but it was located along the main road that is used to get to temple grounds. And, I was able to walk across the street from the hotel and get full body massages for a very good price.

The meals at the hotel were very good - fresh everything! - and included an evening, outdoor dinner, complete with a musical array of dancing and singing performances of the traditional Cambodian type. Most of the guests were gringos - English speakers from around the world.

Not sure how the passes go these days or the structures of them, but I did get a three day pass and used all three days. I was able to visit all the various significant sites and get back before I melted from the heat.

There are many things to see and do there so I'm glad you're getting info from those who live in this area.

BTW, when I was at Ankor Wat one late afternoon, they used to let you climb up and into a cupola, dome-shaped area at the main temple at Ankor Wat. It was kind of off to one side of the temple, and I found this quite by accident as I was just wandering around by myself that afternoon.

Much to my surprise, after having found this area by accident, I climbed up the outside steps and into this domed area. There were many monks up there, doing their chanting and incense and what not. Just a handful of gringos....

It just so happened that when I was up inside there, the sun was setting. When the sun hit a certain angle in the sky, the light inside this cupola dome suddenly changed from a regular light to a beautiful soft, but deep golden color. The inside of this cupola was filled with this golden light for about 60-90 seconds, then returned to it's usual color. I took lots of pics of this surprising moment in time. I hope it is still open to the public....

If you can arrange it, get a private, educated tour guide and tour. You will learn much more, be able to ask more questions, stop and linger around whenever and wherever you want to, and really make your time there an informative one. I was able to get a deeper understanding of the Khmer people and culture by having an educated and private guide.

He also turned me onto some places in the town that most tourists don't know about, too.

The CFO certificate isn't looking like it is going to happen. Once they found out that we were not getting married they pretty much said she wasn't getting a certificate because they only service Filipinos that have a foreigner that wants to marry them. After she said we weren't getting married they started asking her if we were having sex, if we had done so in the past, what my religion was and then said I had to submit a letter of intent to marry. The answer to all the of those inappropriate questions would have been a big "FU" from me...probably best I wasn't there. :shifty:

I figured this CFO thing would be a big waste of time. I tried doing it the right way by being truthful, going through the recommended steps and providing all the right documents but that didn't work, so now I'm going to go about it the Filipino way: lie, lie and lie some more and if that doesn't work....bribe my way through the bureaucracy to get what I want. If I still come up empty handed then I'll move on to Plan 3a....

Was this the Cebu 'we make our own rules and enjoy being a pain' CFO or the CFO in Manila?

Oh yes, I heard she broke up with you but kept the airline ticket you bought because she wants to visit Cambodia on her own??? or something like that.

Is she over or under the 'magic' age of 25? (Is she subject to under 25 extra BI hassle)
