It is reported today, that a 67 yo Canadian killed 2, wounded one, and then committed suicide by shooting himself in the Cebu Hall of Justice.

Not a real good example for foreigners here ?:(

I don't think we should hold his acts against all Canadians.

Of course not, I agree, and in no way did I even infer that.

Anything negative that a foreigner does here, does not look good, no matter what Country he is from.

According to the news that I have been reading, the guy's name was John Pope, 67. He was apparently responding to a charge of malicious michief in the Cebu City Trial Court, filed by his neighbour, a doctor, in the Condo where he was living. They say he had threatened the doctor and others in the condo building with his hand gun (he had other weapons realted charges pending). He shot and killed the doctor and the doctor's lawyer in the court room then shot and injured a City Prosecutor in another room, MTCC Branch 1. He was shot by police, in the arms and leg, then, not wanting to be caught alive, he shot himself in the right temple (from GMA News).

I also read that there was a ''to be deported'' action pending against him ?

Pity he had to end up that way.:(

Also a bigger pity that the Doctor and lawyer ended up down that way. Sad.

I just read that this guy was from Minnesota but holds a Canadian passort. Police could not say where the passport was issued. Some news reports say that he had a deportation order for overstaying his visa by more than a year. Also conflicting reports on whether he shot himself in the head or if he died from wounds inflicted by police.

This guy had been fighting against the world all his life. He was actually an American but denounced that citizenship so he escaped to Canada. This is the profile of a man who believes the world is wrong, and he is right.

    Canadian man

If as I have read that this man went to Canada dodging the draft for the Vietnam War, he was one of thousands. That he became a naturalized citizen of Canada is right and proper being as he obviously lived and worked there for many years, at least he did not remain an illegal immigrant from which I deduce that he and Canada both found each other satisfactory at that time. A further clue might be that after being pardoned for dodging the draft he remained a Canadian citizen. I also hear that this man was a journalist and in my opinion, journalists get away with a great deal that the average citizen would not. Just my opinion, but I think it's possible that this man wanted his rights respected, and did not realize that as a foreigner, even a foriegn journalist, that he had few, and the rights he had were not among the rights he wanted. He left the US because he didn't like it, I think it likely he left Canada because there was some place he would rather be. I think he should have moved one more time, a few years ago, to a different island. Even people who don't like how their country is run will not thank you for telling them how to run it.
