thanks wrye83 ... emailed ken trading they asking for 1,500 a day (discounted from 2,800/day)...some guy from oilman rent a car offer 30k for toyota sedan...jackseng carwash and detailing services sent email and offer 25k for isuzu crosswind when i phone them to book the rental they change their mind and ask me 55k instead, what the heck was that ...! Anyways, if I could not find a better deal from here I will go for 30k. By the way is it safe to park any where in dgte.? I was thinking if I just park the car in robinson and take a pedicab to roam around downtown is that safer?
Just remember there is no such thing as a gentleman's agreement in the Philippines. Whoever you rent from there needs to be a contract written up and take pictures of the car before you get in the thing and drive off. There used to be a small mom and pop car rental place on the same block as the OK Pension House. I have rented from them before and they were cheap (though I rented a manual transmission). I think I paid 500-700 a day there. Maybe one of the members here knows the name of the place. It's located on the corner of Sta. Catalina St. and Acias Pinili Street on the map I posted here. I should be back in Dumaguete before you arrive, if you don't have any luck before my arrival date (which I can't post here right now) I can go check to see if they are still there and find out their prices for you.
Also assume that the car has no insurance, regardless of what they say. You break it, or anything else, you pay it.
Opinions are like assholes, ( everyone has 1),so here is mine. DON'T RENT FROM ANYONE!!! If you really need a car on and off during your stay here take a car with a driver form the taxi company at the airport. They have toyota sedans with drivers by the day. Like Dennis and Dustin say there are no gentleman's agreements here and insurance is a joke. Let it be their car and their driver, keeps you from being held hostage if there is a fender bender sir. You can rent a trike by the day for a few hundred peso's from someone in your neighborhood and roam all over the city and then plan your time with a car carefully and pay the guys at the airport. Much less stressful and zero chance of you being responsible for rebuilding someone's piece of crap car and/or paying outrageous medical bills for whomever might get involved in even the most minor of accidents....
