When we went to register our car in January, I was amazed how unprepared I was for it!! The stenciling, the warning device, the COC, etc.....!!!! Anyway, we didn't have the COC, I had to call our insurance company to send it, why they didn't include it with the policy in the first place??!! It took about a week to receive it, by that time we had to pay late fees. This year our insurance agent is telling us it costs 575php to get the COC!!! I think he is just trying to eek out more money from us, since last year the company mailed to us, didn't ask for money. Anyone have similar experience? Okay, so I am going through our papers and can't find the "original registration certificate", should we have gotten one when we registered it in January? I have a copy of the previous year's. I also have the official receipt of payment. Does anyone know if I can go to the LTO and get a copy of the registration?? I am just trying to get all my ducks in a row this year.................

    Permres,
You don't mention if this is a new car, imported from another province or just a car running for many years in Dumaguete.
If it is a new car, go to the seller.
If it is an old car just go to a "smoke test center" they can fix some paperwork for you.
I only go ones a year to smoke test center (around the corner from Du Ek Sam) and they arange all paperwork with LTO and insurance. I just pay the bills with official receipt plus a small tip.

It is an old car we shipped when we moved from Manila 1 1/2 years ago. We registered it this past January, but not sure if we should have received a new registration certificate. We have the "official receipt of payment", but cannot locate the certificate which is required to register it. We ran around like chickens, last time, trying to get everything needed to register it, that I wanted to get everything in order early this time.

I know it will eventually come back to bite me in the butt, however................

I've given up re-registering either my car or my motorcycle. If/when the police begin to enforce even some minimal driving rules, THEN I may be inclined to think that the fees are not a total rip off. They set up check points to catch people like me, but they let idiot drivers do all manner of crazy stunts on the road:

    Let me count the ways

    1. Crash through stop signs without even slowing.
    2. Driving at night with no lights.
    3. Passing on both sides of slower traffic at the same time.
    4. Forcing their way ahead of slower traffic regardless of on coming traffic.
    5. Moving to the far right hand side of a lane to make a left turn.
    6. Turning right or left with no signaling.
    7. Speeding. I mean REALLY letting it all hang out.
    8. Totally failing to follow any sense of "right of way."
    9. Vehicles with choking black smoke billowing out of the exhaust. (Smoke test? What smoke test?)
    10. Double parking at will.
    11. And on and on it goes.

    Screw re-registration.
