After looking around some electronic stores I found that it was impossible to build my own at a reasonable price. Ordered this thing online and has worked great so far, with only a few minor problems.

I have tested it in several bars and while driving around town. I have been getting at least 10 meter (possibly more) radius out of it. Cut the signal of several Filipino driving and talking and a couple loud pricks talking on a phone at the bar. You can see the size is good for concealment, about the size of one of those old razor phones. Operates with a rechargeable Nokia style battery and charger (wall charger and car charger). Simple on and off switch. Green = on Red = charging. Can be charged and operated at the same time making it a permanent stationary jammer if so desired.

The downside has been that it also cuts wifi signal if in close proximity of a router, within 2 meters (could be a pro or con depending on what you want to do). The company also makes a wifi jammer so I doubt this is intended but is common when throwing out junk frequencies. I worked on a jammer with the military that costs around 100k USD and even with that you have some undesirable crap spit out. So far it's been great fun to use and screw with people around me. Have a couple people asking me to order one for them. No more inconsiderate pricks at the movie theater or restos.

Do you know anyplace I can get a jammer with adjustable frequency range? Something where you can say replace the frequency crystal (or whatever they call it) I tried, not hard, to find one few years ago but came up empty.
Did you have any problems with customs/duties on the item you ordered or was if from Manila?

The part came from Norway I think. Customs was 1,300 for the part and it was clearly labeled "the signal jammer" on thepackage.

I'm not aware of any jammers that are adjustable....at least not for private use. What frequencies are you wanting to jam?

At the other end of the spectrum, a friend has a weak cell signal at his house. The signal in nearby areas is slightly better, in the usable range. Is there an inexpensive way to boost the signal in weak areas? I have read about boosters (Wilson) with a outdoor antenna and wifi like unit in the house for around $250+, is there something cheaper that is not a "snake oil" product?

I had two things for fringe reception areas in the U.S. that should work here if you can find them.

One was an antenna that boosted performance (1 bar usually) and was stuck to the rear window of the cab of my truck. The other was a stick on antenna that went inside my phone inbetween the battery and the phone which on average boosted the signal maybe a half bar. When used together they definitely boosted my range and allowed cell phone use in areas where most said there was no reception. Both I bought in auto parts stores in the U.S. As far as finding them here? Good luck.

I used to stand in the bed of my truck to get better reception while working in the field. I lived in a 2 story house and reception was always better upstairs. Getting above the ground clutter seems to help. Some sort of antenna with short leads to the phone might help but if the wires are too long resistance would probably remove any signal strength gains you might have made.

And where does someone connect an antenna on a cell/smart phone, I have not seen any sockets on them to plug one in, also to find the right plug(if there is any socket for it)should be quite tricky especially if you are limited to local stuff...

Look at DHgate.com and search for cell phone antenna booster, like this one: Wholesale Family Mobile Phone Cell phones Signal Booster Repeater Amplifier GSM 900 USA BRAZIL CAN WORK, Free shipping, $67.93-99.0/Piece | DHgate. Also, there is a guy in San Juan, Siquijor selling them for under $50, I think.
