Valencia is currently having a new event, Chada! Valencia, an Eco-Tourism function for the old fogies here. They have many stalls set up by the local farms, and there are many plants/herbs as well as ornamental plants available, including such things as Jalapeno, Coriander, Celery, Strawberries and fruit trees just to name a few.
Yesterday they had Ligiron races. A Ligiron is a small wooden or bamboo cart that was used by the farmers in years past. Now, a popular sport up here is to ride/race them as scooters.
For anyone thinking of coming up, be advised that the roads are a mess. Both the Dumaguete/Valencia highway AND the Bacong/Valencia road are experiencing massive construction. The best roads to Valencia are currently the Palinpinon road and the Banilad/Cantile E road. There is an article on the Chada festivities here DAILY STAR: Negros Oriental The Mouse is currently working on a schedule of events which she will post when she gets done. Larry
