Gday to fellow board members . I have joined here after much research to find a nice place for future retirement and after reading many hundreds of threads on this board. I have yet to actually visit Dumaguete but will arrive this month February 17th. Over the last two decades I have seen most of SE Asia and if anyone needs to know about Thailand or Vietnam or needs help in either language I can probably be of great assistance. My Vietnamese is a bit rusty , but I am almost fluent in Thai including slang. You will find that I have strong opinions but they are thought out and structured from many years of life experience , Try and be patient when I suggest that radical Greenies ARE a renewable rsource and could easily be used to fire most power plants You will find I very much dislike Americanisms but consider Americans as brothers of us Aussies , so not much use asking me about Ketchup , Cilantro or hot peppers as I only know about Tomato sauce , Corriander and Chillies. People often think I am racist and sexist ,,, I figured a way around that problem ,,,, I hate everyone equaly That's me ,, just here to add when I can , avoid conflict as much as I can and learn from people that actually live in Dumaguete.
Welcome to DI chappo, You'll find a diverse group here. I have come to learn that the majority are friendly, informative and just like sharing the experiences good and not so good of living in the Philippines. I am fairly new myself, but have learned an awful lot from this group.
Chappo, welcome and good open intro, sort of a mix of humor and sarcasm, you should fit well on this forum. Just curious, what were you doing in Vietnam to learn the language?
So in good American English what you are saying is you can't cook!? Ginni6 can help you in that department. Larry
Nice intro Chappo and welcome. Love your sarcasm disguised as opinion. Hope your visit on the 17th is fruitful. Im sure you will collide with some of us around the town and on the Boulevard, so let us know who you are and share a tinnie or two. Roger
Wow , so many warm welcomes thanks to all. pat0 ,,,, First ever overseas trip was to Nam ,, loved the place and went again 10 times in following 2 years ,, picked up the language by combination of travel guide , speaking and listening to locals and then practicing with Vietnamese work friends. Nope I am too young to have been involved in the war?? police action ??? no sure what latest correct term is for that which the French caused. Shadow ,, I only uderstand English and if the American's stopped advertising their language as English then i would have no problem ,,,,LOL ,,, Actually i'm an excellent cook ,,,, quite expert at most thai , Vietnamese food and also the Euro classics such as Spagetti Bolognese , etc etc but i do have trouble with the complexity of American cuisine , damned hard to add pickles on a McDonalds hamburger and I believe it takes years of practice to get the right amount of mustard on a hot dog Broadside ,,, Would love to meet up with board members for a few coldies ,,, actually i must say San Miguel Pilsen is one of the best beers I have tasted on my travels so i intend to drink more than a few. Is there any board meeting planned any time between 17 and 21 Feb? Either way I would be more than happy to meet any members that have free time ,, I'll even throw the first 1,000 peso on the bar,,, just let me know where and when Cheers Dave
Welcome to D.I., Chappo and I hope you will feel at home in Dumaguete. Feel free to contact me if you want to know the local language.
Yeah, welcome to our Forum Dave Chappo, you'll find a good bunch here. I think that Dumaguete will treat you well as your home, as it has for so many of us (even tho only a winter-home for me, so-far). If that get-together for beer is arranged, do let me know.
