Chickens dying

I have heard two separate reports now of families in Dumaguete that had chickens (I think in one case it was 20 and in another case 15) and all of them died suddenly (the chickens that is). Has anybody heard about this and can confirm it? Does anybody know if there are results from any investigations? For me, this is more alarming than rumors about terrorists. I hope they are finding some explanation for this happening other than what it could potentially be.

Anyone else notice, if anything goes wrong the first thing people jump to conclusions about is "It was the terrorists" ..hehe sorry, just gave me a good wakeup laugh this morning.

It's nothing new, they have the term "atay" for the epidemic. There is also an expression, "gi-atay" which means that sucks/that's bs, etc.
    Agriculture there needs improvement.

There is bird flu in The Philippines so this may need checking. Incidentally (check this for yourselves and do not take my word as advice), bird flu is transmitted via a respiratory route and there should be no problem in eating properly cooked chicken. Just don't go kissing chickens if that is your thing.

I did not imply that I thought the reports of numbers of chickens all suddenly dying was in anyway terrorist related. I think that a bird flu epidemic would not be something to laugh about.

It depends upon the strain, many can be spread by direct contact. Eating properly cooked chicken is not the risk, handling the raw chicken is. Of course H5N1 is the big worry, but it seems the strain now spreading in the Philippines is H5N6 which is not as serious.

Agriculture Department: PH bird flu strain transmissible to humans

The neighbour has been losing Chickens regularly over the past few months, and the BIL almost lost his Prize Rooster the other night, this one (pic attached) was guilty of the BIL's Rooster, the neighbour thinks her 'Big Brother' is responsible for his. Here the victims have all had leg ties, so I suspect the Snake has regurgitated them once they realise there is no slithering away with a mouthful of chicken.

BTW: He was very tasty BBQ'd in Chili and Spices, very much like Mang Inasol!

It's not. The rating was likely hit on accident. It has been removed. Please report posts that you feel are incorrectly rated so it can be dealt with quickly.
