THE Coast Guard Station in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, assured the public that a foreign vessel registered in China that is currently anchored in the city has valid Customs documents.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Jude Greannata, Coast Guard-Dumaguete station commander, gave the assurance, as public curiosity continues to spike on social media over the presence of the international vessel, the China Shipping Bulker, which was first spotted in the city last week.

The ship is scheduled to offload cement at the Ducomi port in the adjacent town of Bacong, but there is still no berthing space available there, said Greannata.

In the meantime, it is allowed to drop anchor in the waters off the Dumaguete port, she added.

The ship’s port of registry is China but its last port of call was Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam prior to coming to Negros Oriental, said Greannata.

The China Shipping Bulker also has Customs, Immigration, Quarantine and Security/safety inspection already, just as other foreign vessels are required the same when coming to the Philippines, said Greannata.

Many people have posted pictures of the China-flag bearing ship on Facebook, commenting on its presence in Dumaguete, with some expressing “fear” while others disputing the unreasonable remarks, saying it must be legitimate if it has dropped anchor for days now.
