It is not often, people get to write their own Obituary but that's what I felt like this morning.
I was walking my smaller dog yesterday morning at about 8.15am, waiting for him to do his business, I stopped to gaze around a little, at the foliage growing again, on a vacant lot near my house,

Next thing you know, I am laying on the Floor with this tremendous pain, just below my left eye,

27 years military service, 7 times active and then, I get shot in the Face walking my dog.
What is this world Coming to. Only a Pellet Gun I was told, Pellet gun or not, This is sheer Lunacy.

Just a couple of Photos for prosperity

Who? Why? I can only guess it was a kid playing with his pellet gun? Or a deliberate shot at you? Or hunting birds and the pellet went further than they thought?

Hope you are OK and no long term effects.

Thanks for the thought Dave, I am sure, nothing will come of it, like most places, No one saw or heard anything but an awful lot of locals knew, I had been shot and downed. For me now, I am thinking Whoever fired the shot, must have been either a d*mn good Shot with a fairly High powered Rifle or, they were very close,
Either way I am not too happy.

Odd maybe, but I walked the same route at Midday with the big dog, Strange how few, of the Regulars I normally see were about.

Whatever, I will not dwell on it too much, Deliberate or Accident, I am still here and will remain here.

It is crazy, just a little more accurate (inaccurate shot) and you have lost an eye. I would suggest you keep your weight down, as they maybe gunning for a large fiesta meal (Just my sick humor)
I see guys walking around Bacong between the houses with long rifles with scopes on them, but I am told they are pellet guns used for shooting birds. There are not many bird around the Philippines, just like there are not many large fish here often also.
There are many insane things that happen here and it seems like more and more are life threatening.
I hope you make a full recovery.

Hope everything is ok JP , was the incident reported ? very concerning stuff , sincerely hope this was an accident and not a nasty act , absolute spineless behaviour on behalf of the perpetrator either way because obviously no immediate assistance was offered from the "grassy knoll " . Hope you are over this very soon , best regards Tony

    Thank you Tony,

Reported yes, as you can imagine, only Foreigners seem to understand the issue here, to the Authorities, it is just another day and another Accident that happens all the time,

I suggested, some sort of Baringay safety talks on the use of Pellet guns, only to be met with an off the cuff remark from a PNP Sargent "Then people will have to Admit, they own a Pellet gun"

Where do we go from here I asked?
To the hospital and get that wound seen to, was the reply.

Seems they feel, it was just an accident and could not take it any further.

I guess I have to put it down to yet another "It's more Fun" occurrence we all have to endure.

Apart from a continuing headache and rising swelling, it looks as if, I will make it through this one  and live another day or so, to walk my dogs.

Maybe in Fatigues and a Full ninja mask, complete with helmet next time though:p

JP, hope you are on the road to recovery , It would have been a bit more settling to think at least the baranguay captain was going to place a stern word around the traps , would have been hell to pay for that act over here , especially the timing of it, 1 day after Anzac day, which is the national day of respect for veterans of the armed forces , good to see you have your sense of humour in tact though !! , take care .

Frightening experience I'm sure JP, thank God it missed your eyes.
Hope that you get over it quickly and that things return to normal for the family's sake also.
    regards JB

Jack, I am terribly sorry to hear what happened and I'm extremely glad it was not worse. You are taking it alot better than I believe I would.
Just a theory, possibly they had a telescopic sight and were giving you a look over and such idiocy continued to it's natural result. Maybe a large sign and a loudspeaker announcing Jack Peterson here, would help.
I hope you have a full and speedy recovery Jack.
