There are days when my temper and diplomacy can be brought to boiling point. Yesterday was one of those days. When I returned home from a shopping trip to the city, I saw two workers from the neighbours land throwing banana tree refuse over my back fence, it was not a lot but then it was not the first time. I also found they have been useing our water Pump. this means they have climbed our perimiter fencing. I asked them what they thought they were doing, one of them said his boss told him to do it. so as you can imagine, off I went to see my neighbour, his reply to my question was, WHAT has it to do with you? I told him that I was home now and I don't want this sort of thing to be happening. he said that I was not the owner, so it had nothing to do with me. my wife went to see the Barangay Captain who seemed not too bothered about it and said surely, you can sort this out without any officialdom. well Ok yes it can, if my neighbour has the balls to understand that it may be my wife's name on the title but as far as we are concerned it is a joint effort between us and we see it as ours. This neighbour is not living next door but some 400 mtrs away and has just aquired the land and he will clear it. any ideas on how to approach this. I dont see why I should have to put up with this at all. JP
In your situation what I should do, is at least throwing back everything that has been dumped in your compound to it's origine. Secondly take adequate measures it will be impossible that during your absence workers of your neighbour can use your water pump. Many ways to realize that, depends on the situation. Still do not understand why the Barangay Captain refused to settle the dispute. A very sharp Rottweiler, Dobberman Pincher to name two kind of dogs will surely contribute to keep your compound free of unsolicited visitors. More fun in the PH.
hope you talk about your old property, not the new you're about to build or already did ? if the latter, you can expect ongoing issues, if the first, get your house build and move.
Try an electric cattle fence on top of a 2m wall, (pulsed, DC, solar powered, 12v battery, 4.5-9kV output), already got a couple of potential intruders, backed up of course by a 50+ kg Rottweiler, works for me.
The razor wire they sell at the hardware store downtown if properly installed will make almost any fence or wall unjumpable.
Electric Fences work great for many applications I used electric fences in the US on horses. Usually set it up and waited, they would hit it once, and never go in that direction again. Used it once on my miniature pinchers...was not the greatest idea as it dyed their hair white in spots...but again they did not bother the fence. I would then disconnect the system as the learning experience was over. I would love to see the single wire fence set up along some of the walls around town frequented by the Pedicab drivers on their "breaks." If they urinated on the electric fence it would be a scream to watch.....wonder if anything would fall off. I am sure like the animals they would learn not to urinate on that wall again...well maybe they would learn....I have seen more humans hit by vehicles here than dogs, so I am assuming the dogs may be smarter. I am sure an electric fence would work for a repeat intruder problem. Do you know where any are available in town? I used 110 volts one in the past. I am not sure if they is a liability issue here, suppose they is not if you can get rid of any bodies before anyone finds them..or if they is not a witnesses it seems like nothing has happened here legally.
A good Barangay Captain would get involved! That is one of the aspects of his job! Since your neighbor obviously does not respect you, you could always invite a few friends over to dump trash on his property at all hours of the day and night, and if he asks "why?", just answer with "what has it to do with you?" :D A nice big sign that reads "Please put all trash here" on the edge of his property, with signs further down the road leading up to it saying - Dump, this way >> should help him get the message. :D "What you sow, so shall you reap!" :D
Not so good a welcome back Jack. Is it your new place? It is not my character but maybe I would try the "sugar" method. Buy a bottle of decent rum and a bottle of coke and bring it over with Azon with you and ask him to behave. He must not like foreigners and might respect Azon as the owner. After trying the "nice" route an if unacceptable, if he is down wind from you, burn some rubbish near the fence and stand out there with a beer and a smile. There is little or no respect for other's property here and locals will squat there animals or dump their trash on your property, particularly if no house is on the lot. Therefore, some foreigners on DI don't like it but high fences and wire are necessary here in paradise. Good luck.
