From the Dumaguete Animal Sanctuary: We need your help!! Over the next few months we hope to start implementing the next phase of our plan for a stray free Dumaguete. Our shelter is in a relatively stable situation because of all the support you have extended to us over the last 3 years and now we are hoping to start mass spay and neuter campaigns for owned dogs and also strays. Mass sterilization is the only way that we can end the suffering that you constantly see on our page, but as you can imagine it requires a huge amount of resources and a very aggressive campaign. We will also be giving rabies vaccination to all dogs and cats that are sterilised as a way to also erradicate rabies. We have been working closely with one Municipality here (we will disclose detailed information at a later date) and are hoping to start in May. We are starting to recruit vets from all across the Philippines who will volunteer their time, but we need to provide accomodations. Is there anyone who would be willing to provide accomodations in a resort, guest house or Air B and B for a reduced rate - one that DAS could afford to pay? Ideally we would like to have a number of options that we could fall back on to house visiting vets. We really do need the help of the local community now to help us finally resolve the stray problem here. Also, if any vet clinics here could spare vet personnel for a few hours on one of our campaigns we would be so grateful. Lets do this together - come and join us in our efforts to end the suffering of strays here once and for all. Please share on your timelines to help us extend the reach of this post! thank you
I am generally positive and truly commend you for your passion towards Dogs and Cat's. But for those being solicitated (that's what this post amounts to) please do know...... The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) estimated that there are 12 million stray dogs and cats in the country in 2019. (I do get your concerns are Dumaguete area or surrounds) So the main problem is education............ meaning if you and yours spent a few hours a week visiting a grade 12 classroom and pass the stats on to students with the love, care and compassion you clearly have instilled in your self............ that would cost nothing but your time & is more likely to make a difference in the long haul. Education fix's much more than dollars/ Dollars are just band-aids! Good luck and all the best hopes in the directions you choose. Again.......... it is commendable and thank you for what differences you have made and will make! For me, it is a serious problem here but that problem belongs to the Philippines. IMHO
