I have been living in Dumaguete almost 3 months and generally like it here, but it is almost too little to me. While, I don't like large cities, I do like cities with more places to shop and eat. I have heard a few nice things about Bocolod and was wondering if anyone had lived there, and now lives here could tell me more about Bocolod--the good, bad, and ugly. Thanks
I love bacolod, not too small and not too big! Not too crowded but expect more hold up than Dgte.Lol! Bacolod got more choices for airline flights than Dgte and more places to hang out they got SM, Robinsons and Gaisano Malls and if you're bored with the city, One can go to Boracay and Iloilo city is just less than an hour by fastcraft and minutes ride by a small boat to Guimaras island where you can find one of the most delicious mango in the world and nice white beaches more affordable and cleaner than Boracay. Dgte would be perfect for people who want lay back lifestyle.
Dumaguete has more than Bacolod, more billiards and restaurants and foreignors. The town close down after 6 pm there and only gold circle is open. I love dumaguete much more.
Depends alot what you want, sorry I can't agree that Bacolod closes down after 6pm, most night life only starts at 9 or 10pm. As for restaurants, lots of places to eat 'up north', many more choices and price ranges than here. Agreed, less foreigners and billiards, but is that necessarily such a bad thing? Why don't I move there then, you ask? After 24 years in this 'town that thinks it's a city', I've become too much like the majority of locals, too lethargic to bother my *rse to do anything about anything.
Bacolod has an international airport with direct flights between the city and Incheon/Seoul (Korea) with Zest air.
Interesting all the perceptions on the exact same cities. I find it exactly the OPPOSITE of what you wrote.
I agree, there would be about twenty times the restaurants....not sure about the billiards but no shortage of those in Bacolod either. As for foreigners....hard to say...most live in subdivisions (some are really good with tennis, pools, security etc) outside the city and go in to do their shopping and dining - but you don't see a lot wandering around the city like you do in Dumaguete. That said, Dumaguete has all the basics...and is compact and comfortable enough for most expats to live a good lifestyle. Bacolod is a well-developed city (by Philippine standards) and anything you want you can probably find there....except a decent beach within a 100k's...
I have lived here basically since mid 2009 I find it very dirty, very hard to find the shops you want eg. car parts nuts & bolts power tools etc. robo & sm are good gasano is a bit of a hole, as far as night life don’t bother with the bars etc, have stayed in Duma 4 times & love it, in my subdivision there has just lately been 8 break ins, as far as foreigners yea you see a few in the malls sometimes but nothing like Duma, in Duma I must admit is nice to be able to chew the fat with a foreigner, as far as restaurants in Duma I think there is more in the range of back home style foods, it seems to me Duma is a good central point like some of the other DI guys have said can jump on a boat and be in other places fairly quick, the only thing that I like about Bacolod is hemm I know the roads now.
