Happy New Year wobblybob, have You considered hooking up with the many who have found a worthwhile purpose in life and volunteer to help the storm victims? It just may brighten what seems to be a rather drab outlook.

Well, if you are looking at life from a barstool, Cebu or Manila may be the better place for you!

Actually I got a kick out of reading your post. Most of us have wives or gf here and enjoy life such as it is. If you are single or looking for whores or lady boys, Dumaguete may not be the most exciting place for a man of action such as you.
Personally, I had a fantastic NY Eve. I took my wife and baby to my favorite restaurant and had a 5-star six course gourmet meal, some fine wine, took another bottle of fine wine home, watched some TV, and enjoyed our evening. Boring? Perhaps for some, a good life for me.
A few years ago I did NY Eve at Burgos Makati, for me, I like this life better.
    Bon voyage.

Well Wobblybob, a lot of us came here because (a) we wanted to, (b) we wanted a more laid back lifestyle, (c) we got sick of the way our own countries were being run down, and (d) in my case I got tired of working 100+ hours a week running traditional English pubs just so that the taxman could take most of my earnings and give the money to the unemployable, the workshy reckless and feckless and the immigrant baby factories.

But your post does contain one element of complete truth. Sussex is the arse-hole of UK, and Worthing is half a mile up it. :p

Apparently he didn't do his homework before coming. Unless someone is holding a gun to your head you are free to leave, I'm sure. Most people who are "city folk" will not appreciate the easy, laid-back, relaxing style here. You belong in Manila or Cebu, I personally hated Manila because it was too much of everything. I grew up in a rural area in the U.S. and, thus, prefer places like this. It's all personal preference....I have to wonder why you like all the crowds, pollution, and noise??!! I guess if you are drunk in a bar, whooping it up, all that doesn't matter.............as for me and my family, we like it here.

I agree with many of the other comments. Sounds like Dumaguete isn't for you. Many of us come here to enjoy a quieter and peaceful life with close friends, family, gf, and whatnot. For us its much more rewarding enjoying our time with our close friends, families, and GF then a different bargirl everynight and blowing wads of cash for an hour of fun.

Next time do your research first. We don't need your kind here and that is why many of us came.

Wobblybob, what is so boring? No matter where you go whether it be manila, cebu, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore or Thailand, etc, things get boring after awhile. It only gets interesting if you look at the good things they have to offer.

If you find a few friends who are great at conversation and are humourous, then you have everything, good company, a few drinks and you have the perfect match.

If you are after scenic places, then have a look at palaypay falls, casaroro falls (Closed and in repair at the moment) and travel around looking at all the fiestas at each barangay or province. There is more to life than drinking beer (well not the english version of a 'wee one') at a bar all year and birdwatching in a shopping mall.

Each to their own and what applies to you does not apply to others and vice versa.

Other members are here for a reason, they have spouses or reside here, therefore they have established friends and links to this place.

You as a visitor need to give it some time to absorb and learn to enjoy the place. The locas are more approachable than in Manila and friendlier. If it is too laid back then go back to Cebu for a visit then come back if you get bored there...

Your only in your mid 50's and still have alot of time left to explore.

Enjoy your retirement wherever it may be.

    wobblybob,
For me, boring is the state of mind for a person who is stuck on only a few likes and lot's of dislikes. I'm in my early 50's and enjoy the casual lifestyle living here with my family, but for new years eve, I went to my favorite watering hole and tried to drink San Miguel dry~ But SMB won the contest! I woke up with one hell of a hangover, a sore throat from laughing my arse off telling bad jokes and talking with friends and apparently singing too!!!!!

    Boring????? Not for me.
