Incoming president Rodrigo duterte is planning deal a blow on "cartels" in the energy and telecommunications industries to improve services. Duterte told the media in Davao on Saturday evening that he would hammer out a policy to improve the country's internet speed, one of the slowest in Asia. If telcos fail to shape up, the industry would be opened to foreign competition, Duterte was quoted as saying. The same policy would apply to the energy sector, which he said is being run like a cartel. He said he will open the industry to foreign investors to improve services and bring down power rates, one of the highest in Asia.
