Davao city-mayor Rodrigo duterte surged on top of a commissioned survey for presidential candidates in the 2016 elections.

In the survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS), Duterte gained 38 percent of the 1,200 respondents from all over the country with Vice President Jejomar Binay and Sen. Grace Poe tied at 21 percent.

Administration candidate Manuel Roxas II trailed at 15 percent with Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago at fourth place with 4 percent.

In the vice presidential race, the same survey revealed Sen. Francis Escudero garnered 30 percent, Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at 24 percent; Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, 21 percent; Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo at 12 percent; Sen. Gregorio Honasan at 6 percent; Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV at 5 percent with the undecided at 1 percent.

The survey was conducted from Nov. 26 to 28 during which Duterte filed his certificate of candidacy, making official his run for the presidency after several weeks of giving mixed signals as to his political plans.

Those undecided in the survey comprised at least one percent of the total of 1,200 respondents with 300 each taken from Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Duterte tops SWS poll; Poe, Binay tied at 2nd | Headlines, News, The Philippine Star | philstar.com

:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: This country is screwed. The leading presidential candidate should be in prison for the rest of his life for his extrajudicial killings (that he openly admits to :o o:) and the guy in second place for the VP spot is still living off the billions his father stole from the Filipino people during his dictatorship. The country is heading down a path of oppression, human rights violations and marshal law from a ruthless dictators again. What's the psychology behind this? Is it because most Filipinos come from a large family and didn't get the full attention from their parents that they wanted (or their fathers weren't even there) and now need a daddy figure to ruthlessly dictate what is right and wrong and exactly when and where they are allowed to do it to make up for all the time mommy and daddy didn't spend with them? :bored:

    The whining has started already!

The mention of roddy duterte's name in the question asked in the Social Weather Stations' latest presidential preference survey may have tilted the balance in his favor, political experts said on Monday.

Professor Segundo Romero of the Ateneo de Manila University Development Studies Program said that mentioning Duterte's name clearly influenced the results of the survey.

"This additional wording referring to Rodrigo Duterte clearly biases the results in his favor.... Is it any wonder that Duterte tops this list, and this is the only list released to the media and the public?" Romero told GMA News Online.

"Of course not! But SWS, as a matter of contract, apparently cannot release what has not been released by the client himself. The buyer of the information has exclusive rights to the data at this time," he added.

SWS director Leo Laroza said the question that had Duterte's name was a transition from another query. The previous question, he said, was based on a list that didn't contain the Davao mayor's name.

However, Laroza said, the research sponsor decided not to release the survey results from the question without Duterte's name. He said that it was the prerogrative of the client William J. Lima, who's said to be a Davap City-based businessman.

There was a poll on another expat forum about who you would vote for if you could vote. Duterte topped the poll!
It seems like the people have now become wise to the Manila crew of politicians and are fed up with the lies and crap and want a big change whatever it may bring! Everyone deserves a chance.

Change, yes, but at what price? This article was quite obviously published a number of years ago, but I think it’s worth looking at. I’ll quote a small segment from it below. If and when your internet is fast enough, I’d recommend reading it in its entirety.

Tough justice: On the trail of Philippine death squads | Asia | News | The Independent

“Condemnation and press coverage has failed to stop summary executions of what Mayor Duterte calls “society’s garbage,” Davao’s own slum dogs: alleged petty drug dealers, young toughs and street children. Vigilantes have murdered 894 people in the last decade, including at least 80 minors, according to the Tambayan Center for Children’s Rights, a Christian NGO that operates in Davao’s city center. It is the only organization keeping a systematic account of the executions. The youngest victim was 12 years old.”

Numbeo is based off of people's "perceptions" and not actual crime statistics. (and there is absolutely no residency requirement to vote for any city or how many accounts a person can create to vote)
Yeah, and people thought they were getting "change" with Aquino as well......all he has given is a lot more of the same. The two most likely scenarios if Duterte gets elected is that either he becomes a dictator and forces his will on the people through military force, or he will be a lame duck president because he is, after all, just one elected official in one of the three branches of government.....and those other two branches (one that actually makes the laws and the other who determines if the laws are constitutional) will still be controlled by the same oligarchs that control it right now. If Duterte thinks for one second that he can activate his death squads in Manila against the oligarchs they will have him killed before he even decides on his first victim.

Duterte has already came out and said that the Americans should just go home. Do all these expats really think the average Filipino is going to care if you are European or American? They call anyone that is not a Filipino a "kano".....what might you suppose that is short for? We will become the enemy and escape goat once they realize that Duterte's death squads don't do jack squat to stop criminality in the Philippines.

And some people just don't deserve a chance.....especially vigilante murderers. That's fine though, if those foreigners think his extrajudicial killings are alright they can have that.....just hope they don't come crying about not getting their day in court when someone falsely accuses them of a crime and sends a death squad after them simply because they are jealous of what they have or are perceived to have. Anyone who thinks that everything in the government here is corrupt except Duterte and his death squad panel is either very naive or very stupid. And I don't know why people are acting like the Philippines is all that dangerous of a place; your chances of being a victim of a violent crime are pretty much the same as most Western countries. If you are a loud mouth drunk douche bag your chances of getting in a violent altercation goes way up no matter where you live. If you mind your own business and just live your life drama free your chances go way down. They don't fight or kill here just for the sport of it. The statistics in Dumaguete show this over and over again.....the vast majority of gun violence here is drug related. Stay away from drugs and you will stay away from bullets.

But then again, there are plenty of people who support Trump in the US.....doesn't mean he has a snowballs chance in hell of winning.

If elected President next year, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte would impose a nationwide curfew, regulate the selling of liquor and create a commission that would get public consensus on federalism as among his top priorities.

In an interview aired over radio station dzMM on Wednesday, Duterte said he would order all commercial establishments especially, night clubs and bars closed by 1 a.m.

“There’s always a time for everything. I am concerned about the safety of the children,” the mayor added.

Davao City has an ordinance imposing a curfew and another that prohibits the selling and serving of alcoholic beverages starting at 1 a.m. Duterte said the ordinances helped maintain peace and order in the city.

He, however, dismissed concerns that such policy could discourage foreign tourists from visiting the country to have a good time.

“It pisses me off that our women are working for these foreigners. Wala akong pakialam sa foreigners, umalis na sila [I don’t care about the foreigners, they can leave if they want],” Duterte said.

The tough-talking mayor, who is known for his hardline stance against criminality, admitted that he has killed three criminals in Davao City.

He said he has also killed three kidnap-for-ransom suspects during a police operation.
According to Duterte, he asked the suspects to surrender, but they refused.

“Sabi ko, taas kamay. Hindi tinaas, so binaril ko [I told them to raise their hands. They refused, so I shot them],” he said.

Duterte justified his purported action by saying he was just doing his job as a person in authority. You are being redirected...
