    I don't know.
Every fall in Canada the weather starts to get cold and the mice come indoors looking for a winter home.

The best mousetrap I have found is one that will catch 10 mice automatically. Just wind it up and place it where the mice tend to go, usually up against a wall.

It consists of a sheet metal box with a paddle wheel. You just wind it up the mice walk into a small opening in the side, they step on a trigger and a paddle wheel flips them into a holding container. There is a window in the top so you can see how many mice you have in the trap. After you catch the first one the others seem to come soon after. I think the trapped mouse raises such a fuss that his friends come to investigate and soon end up in the trap with the first one.

Bonus! now what do i do with 10 live mice? Well if you have a neighbor who is a pain in the @ss or someone you don't like. Just head over and set them free in his front yard..

Check out the link to see the trap in action...

I prefer the sticky boards to catch mice and in the right places they work real quick. With bait sometimes you know if they nibbled it (if not local cat, dog, or birds) but with a sticky board you can see the bugger and then make sure they are dead for the count. But then for me the rat baits (tried a few kinds) didn't seem to get rid of them.

Its much better, if you have the skill and patience to place them in the right spots. But the real advantage is that stupid cats (like mine) are not going to die from eating poisoned rats who are easy to catch and eat but the poison then goes to the cat . . . who dies if he eats enough of them. (He recovered last time he ate one and I thought he had learned his lesson but I think this time he is beyond help  )

Although I'm not in Duma (yet!), I do live out in a rural farming community where we DO get these little guys - some are way bigger than others.

I use the sticky boards as opposed to the rat/mice poison. I have a cat and my neighbor has many cats, so my using the sticky boards eliminates accidental poisoning of the cats should they happen to catch/nibble on a dying rodent.

And for sure, I know the boards do work when one gets stuck on it. I dispatch the fellow to his afterlife and then the dust bin, knowing I have one less to mess with.

Matiao hardware has a steel wire cage with a spring loaded door that never fails to catch rats alive with no mess or poison and very cheap, if you get small field mice like I do Tops and Bottome has the same thing in a smaller size. The bigger one has around 1/4 inch squares that are big enough for the small mouse to excape.

I don't have anyone I hate enough to release them in their yard Hee Hee, so I drop the trap into a bucket of water till the deed is done. I find the best bate is Pizza crust or any dry piece of meat.

I find the Sticky boards inhumane, Some of these things will chew their own legs off sorry there are other ways of doing this.
Warfrin based poisons do the job and they go of and die elsewhere.
That's me Folks, But if our pets are doing the Job there would be no need, Rats stray Chickens and others don't Live long in our Garden.

I never understood the argument of saying sticky boards are inhumane vs the poison. The poison often has them in agony for days and sometimes weeks before dieing and bleeding internally. Assuming the person checks their sticky board daily or just hearing the squeals when stuck they can be dispatched with a bonk over the head and if left alone often just give themselves a heart attack or such within 24-48 hours from exhaustion. It seems to be a lot more humane then poison which can also effect other animals such as cats, dogs, and even chickens.

I can see the argument though for the cage catch and release traps but then where to go take them to release which will probably just end up another person's nightmare.

But just remember, the rat poison isn't some quick reaction cyanide capsule where they are dead in minutes. Its a very slow poison generally that attacks the organs causing internal bleeding to death... at least for the ones I'm familiar with.

Just please remember that Dogs and cats Sweat through their paw pads, if they tread on sticky pads that are Toxic, it can create a problem if they don't clean their pads they can't sweat if they do they can too be poisoned, so in more ways than one Sticky pads are not always good.
That is my take on this as an animal (Pet Lover)

Snap traps baited with snickers bar chunks are my weapon of choice if I have vermin roaming around. Luckily I didn't have an vermin in my apartment but the odd gecko did visit from time to time. Friends in Manila were being bitten by rats, a baby on the mouth and a woman on the finger. I bought them some snap traps and advised them to wash their hands and face thoroughly after eating. We caught a half dozen over the next couple days and nobody was getting bit anymore. The biggest problem was kids eating my bait before it could get to the trap.
