We finely got the first reimbursement check from the FMP for a trip to SUMC ER for March 26 2019. Took 5 months to the day. The check was mailed from Manila 3 weeks before it got here in my house. They did reimburse the full amount but did not pay any interest for the money they borrowed from me for 5 months. I will let you know the results of the next 6 clams related to the 6 weeks involving my coronary nightmare, last April and May.
I am not holding my breath.

So sorry but can anyone tell me what the term “FMP” means? Does it refer to Phil health?

I was told that since there is a VA in the Philippines that I could not avail of FMP. The VA Manila will only treat my sc disabilities. ??? I am rated 70%sc/100%T&P.

We were added under the FMP a year or more ago, but the FMP still only covers your Service Connected Disabilities. You have to contact them and enroll in the program. They send you a package and list your disabilities that are covered.

You can also us the VARO in Manila, but no reimbursement for travel.

Me, I don't like the check mailing, you would think they could just do a direct deposit in today's age. Even Tricare does direct deposit.

You right on the money Happy. The FMP is a branch of the Veteran's Administration. In my opinion the FMP is the VA's way to get us service connected vets to LEND the VA money for our service connected medical care. The real problem that comes into play is when, (like in my case last April), Your life depends on whether or not you have 50 or 60 thousand USDs worth of pesos in your pocket when you arrive at the Emergency Room.
Last April I was glad that my family and friends both in the US and hear in Dumaguete was willing to lend me some $8,000.oo USDs in order for me to fly to the US in order to get the service connected medical care, I so desperately needed.
A word to the wise, If you are in coronary distress and need to fly internationally DO NOT inform the air line of that because if you do you will not be flying. They do not like old codgers like myself kicking the bucket on their planes.
The FMP is a covert way the VA is reducing the number of vets in what should be in THEIR care. Simply by letting them die for lack of money in an emergency situation. :banghead::nurse::hungover:

Update to this post; The bank puts another 25 business day hold on the check before releasing the money. That means that I lend the US government that money for more that a half year with no interest. That 6 week coronary nightmare, last April, cost me in the neighborhood of $12,000.oo to $14,000.oo . How much the FMP will reimburse is yet to be seen. At that time I only had the finances to cover about $6,000.oo of it and another $4,000.oo from Visa credit. I was saved by my three brothers and one widowed Filipina, here in Dumaguete, in the amount of $2,000.oo each. I still owe $2,000.oo to the widowed Filipina only because of the bank hold on the FMP check.
I ask the bank manager, "Why the hold, this bank don't trust a US Government check?" He said with a smile, "That is right." I said, "You're a wise man, because, Truth, Justus IS NOT the American Government's Way." And Supper Man broke his neck when he fill off his horse. :wtf::rage::nurse::dead:
