Hi, This is my first post and I wanted to introduce myself. My real name is Paul and I am currently living in Sydney, Australia. I am 55 years old and my first trip to the Philippines was in 1977 when I fell in love with the people. I have been a single Dad for the past 14 years but the last of my kids will finish her studies and move out at the end of this year - so I have been planning for a very long time to retire and come and live in Dumaguete with my partner of seven years (from Antipolo, Manila) and her 2 school aged kids. My partner will come to Dumaguete in April in preparation for the new school year and we have just about decided to live in Valencia. She will be looking for a small rental until I arrive late in the year when we will be looking for a larger house to rent which can hold the visitors that I expect from Australia. We do have plans of building but that would be after a year at least after we are certain of exactly where in Dumaguete we wish to live. I would like to be part of your community receiving and eventually giving help and also to the wider community in Dumaguete. If there is a Valencia member who can recommend good private elementary schools nearby and a general area where my partner may start looking for a rental for herself I would appreciate the help. Looking forward to my time here on the board. Pompolino.
Hi Pompolino welcome ,great intro , from one aussie to another if my partener or myself can help your partener in anyway when she arrives in april pls dont hesitate to pm me cheers
Thanks for the great introduction and welcome to the forum. Valencia is the best place to live in the area IMO. My x-wife had her kid going to Holy Child in Dumaguete. I did a couple visits and it seems like an alright place...if you are ok with religion playing a heavy part in education.
Hi as well from another Aussie just recently moved to Dumaguete, my partner and I are staying at the Drill shack resort while looking for accommodation in Valencia or Baes
For all the warm welcomes and positive, useful replies I thank you. I will be in direct contact with you guys again. One of the reasons for leaving Sydney is that I feel it has lost its sense of community - what I love about Filipinos is their connections to ever growing circles of people. Obviously community is strong even within the expat imports. I'm looking forward to joining you guys. Pompolino
