Last time I was in Dumaguete I could rent a comfortable (Filipino style) 2 bedroom house for 5-6000 P per month.
This would have been in the Upper Batingel or Balugo area. These houses were secured (sorta) by a wall and gate.
Any chance of finding such a place these days?

Ok the caveat. I realize many expats in duma are looking at things from a Western perspective of comfort and security, choose to live in gated communities with armed guards in million Peso domiciles. I do not. I have been here 10 years, been robbed, cheated, been through all the scams, many by my good foreigner friends:smile:
just my style, and no not Gangnam style...

You may have to look a little harder, but yes, places like that can still be found.

Jon, I doubt you will find anything acceptable with a wall and gate and whatever (aircon?) for 5-6K. Unless you get more help from other forum members, you should consider a cost of at least 9-12k. Unless, you go real real local.....

    Thanks guys,
Yes obviously it's a keep your eyes open drive around until you find something kind of thing.
By the way I don't use air con. All i need is clean, with screens on windows. I'm acclimated.
I remember a deal in Katrina homes I think before, but then rentals do increase. In fact my landlord here in Cebu would love to have me move out so she could up the rent. been here one year and I am the longest staying tenant.
I could stay in a glorified Nepa hut if necessary., just need internet, water, electric.
I had a nice house in the city proper in 2007, for 7,500 with furniture and aircon in bedroom, never used it. dirty kitchen, carport, yard with gardener.
