Forget about the Middle East right now, it seems North Korea is wanting to be the most prominet aggressor in the News Media today, with all its sabre rattling. Their targets are South Korea, Guam, Japan, Hawaii, and soon they say, Philippines. Does this mean we now start building Nuclear fall out shelters here ? What fascinates me, is, in spite of all the apparent strict UN sanctions against the Country, they are still seemingly plentiful with weapons, ammunition and nuclear expertise and materials as well as long distance rocket capabilities. Who is supplying them all that stuff ? Russia ?
I doubt the China would back them up in any type of conflict this time around (which was the only thing that saved them in the Korean War). Any attack they made would be the end of their regime and they know it......but it wouldn't be before they caused a whole lot of death and destruction. China and Russia are world powers and I doubt they would directly get involved in any conflict NK had with the west. NK has no strategic purpose with today's long range bombers and ICBMs and should not be considered a threat to China and Russia if a US ally took over the area. I think NK understands this. The sh*t they stir, I believe, is mainly for propaganda use within the country to maintain their power.
And if NK wants to nuke Hawaii they should have a chat with the Japanese and see how Pearl Harbor worked out for them. I couldn't even begin to imagine how hard the US, and most of the western world, would come down on NK if they nuked us, or even an ally.
Problem is though, they have actually done some shooting in 2010, they shelled the closest SK island, and also sunk one of their ships !!!!! So they are not just all talk unfortunately.:(
Was it proven beyond any reasonable doubt that it was NK who sank the ship (i could take a wild guess who was responsible but international politics don't work like that). I remember the original story but don't remember the results of any investigation. I remember the shelling of that island but it wasn't that bad and wasn't an invasion, lobbing a couple mortars causing minimal damage isn't how I forsee NK starting a war. That was because of a US/SK naval exercise or because they thought SK was launching mortars at NK? If NK goes after SK I predict they will level Seoul with a massive mortor/rocket/missile attack then cross the DMZ. They have enough forces to initially plow throw SK and US forces stationed on the border if they went full on. They wouldn't have the upper hand but for a few days though.
US dislikes any nation to use same language as they use to threaten nations (except for Israel). As for N Korea, China wont allow US to nuke or attack N Korea. I remember when Mao learnt MacArthur to swim in East China Sea. Do You remember why Truman kicked MacArthur?
" wasn't that bad " you say ?, apparently innocent civilians getting killed by an unprovoked artillery attack, is ok with you ? Or, was that false reporting by the media ? Well if the ship was not sunk by NK, none of the media stories said so ? All we know as mere mortals, is what is reported by our respective Media, who, are briefed by our respective Governments.
Why did Harry kick Douglas ? apart from the fact that Douglas did not like taking orders from politicians on how to win the war ?
The difference Miguel, is that the US has the ability back up their threats. When your the biggest kid on the block, and hang out with all the other big boys, you can say and do pretty much anything you like. The US wouldn't Nuke NK even if they dropped one first. China wouldn't do a d*mn thing. They are concentrating on building their economy, they could care a sh*t less about NK. Chinese benefit none from NK, they benefit from the world economy, and especially the western world's exports. It's a different world than it was during the Korean War.
Honestly, in the grand scheme of things 10 dead civilians really isn't that bad, I don't wish anyone to die, but hey, that's life, it happens. You say it was unprovoked, but you weren't there. Anything could have happened. Do you think the US or SK military would admit to accidentally shooting rockets in the wrong direction torwards NK?
