The hostage states "the Canadian government should get off their @ss and pay the ransom" I think not ! I sympathize with the hostages but despite the Canadian travel advisory, they sailed into port on their big @ss boat feeling invincible because they had money. If they had any brains they would have had body guards like most mini politicians have in the PH. I would like to see the army land on opposite ends of Jolo island and meet in the middle with with a clean house. Happiness is a warm gun. Terrorists have no place in the world and should be denied the right to breathe air. Abu Sayyaf foreign hostages appeal for help | News | GMA News Online
I certainly agree with some of your sentiments. Don't pay the ransom to terrorist and it would be nice if the AFP cleaned up Jolo. If you are finding fault with the hostages for ignoring a government travel advisory so be it, but I think there are very few countries outside Europe that a travel advisory is not in place. So none of us should be here. Dumaguete is pretty safe from Abu Saif. NPA not so safe. You only need to go north or south less than 100 km to find those bandits, fortunately they are more interested in extorting locals. These guys were captured on Samal Island (Davo) which is a fairly safe place. Also they were not captured because they had a big a** boat. They were targeted because of their jobs in the mining industry. The captors passed over other potential hostages looking for those mining guys. I genuinely feel sorry for these guys. They should not have been taken where they were.
Maybe they should have kept a lower profile. Maybe they should make a deal out of their own money since the government isn't paying as corpses are not profitable. Strangely enough, I don't expect the USG to lift a finger to help me. I won't even register with the embassy as the less we have to do with each other the better I will like it.
Sailing into port on a big a** boat is just my way of saying high profile and being high profile puts you at more of a risk than the average Joe, personal security might have been a good idea for them. High profile increases risk no matter where you are in the PH but I do feel the further south you go the more the risk increases. I try to be a low profile person so my travels will be limited past southern the border of Negros. Daesh are the lowest of low and need to have their lease revoked...
It is real shame to be sure. But I see it all time. Maybe not a big boat but gold chains and expensive watches. It's like walking around with a big sign saying rob me! Many foreigners do not know the dangers in the Philippines. I don't understand how they can be so elusive that they can't be found and shot dead!
Put a big enough bounty on them and poor people would be out there hunting them with machetes if they had nothing better.
IMPO it's because the average pinoy army recruit being paid peanuts isn't going to risk their life for a dumb A$$ foreigner.
