    Hey all,

Asking this for a friend who's a Filipina. From my understanding a lot more should be done in this case but the police here in Dumaguete are doing the standard Filipino Way of just ignore the problem. Now the problem is below.

My friend is a 17-18 year old girl (sister of my ex) studying. Yesterday late afternoon this guy came by her boarding house while no one else was there (neighbors witnessed though). He is the boyfriend of a friend of hers and her boardmates but they have no relationship. She refused to open the door when he came banging as she and her boardmate are scared of this guy (apparent habitual drug use and previous arrests). Finally she opened the door and he barged in yelling at her why she didn't open the door sooner and then punched her in the eye. She went down to the police and filed a blotter on the guy and is in the process today of trying to file a case against him. Yesterday the police went and arrested the guy but only a 12 hour hold and released him. He was also making threats after she filed a blotter on him about coming back after and finishing her off (verbal death threats and have witness's *neighbors*).

However all the police would do is hold him for 12 hours and released him even with his record and death threats against the gal. Now from my understanding there were grounds to force him to post significant bail or simply hold him on those charges from the blotter. Now the girl is scared to death but the police aren't doing a d*mn thing other then make her gather witness statements, make her take a medical exam (for the bruised eye), and make her take a pyschological exam to prove she is significantly scared along with tons of other crap.

What I'm wondering is what more I could do to make sure this guy is locked up again asap and make sure the gal is safe. This wasn't some sort of verbal altercation, fight, or relationship squabble, pretty much a stranger besides knowing the guys name. I tried talking to a police seargant (butch lesbian) very politely and such and all she did was laugh and accuse me of questioning Philippine laws...

well, it might not be an answer you like, but for my understanding, she opened the door and let him in instead of calling or yelling for help. Nobody knows what really happened after that.

Not saying that she told you bola, but I am 110% convinced after 9 years in the PI that there is much more to the story than a 17-year old Filipina will tell you as a long nose.

The first thing I personally would question why she actually has friends like that, or living together with people who are in or connected to that drug-circle.

If you wanna do anything, get her out of that kind of friends...

easiest and cheapest way to resolve this is go to Power 91 DYGB FM and let Dions Manaban handle this ( preferably before 4pm). I'm sure the police will act on this ASAP

as a foreigner, not even directly involved, I would keep my nose pretty far away from getting on against druggies in Dumaguete. I would not feel very comfortable driving from Hayahay to the Boulevard as a 3rd party long-nose going public against this kind of people...

you could handle it the filipino way and get 2 or 3 bigger filipino guys have one of those talks with the guy. won't cost much and maybe if this knucklehead knows she has some protection it will be a stalemate.

I'd suggest staying out of it as well - wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, beyond a bus fare to Bacolod. This sort of thing probably happens a dozen times a day. Once you descend into the Filipino crime cesspool (as in hiring some muscle)....things could easily get much worse - and you won't crawl out a winner. Rhoody's given some very good advice.

Keeping one's nose off the druggies doesn't mean you're afraid of them, but just evading trouble. If you are not sure of their story yet, its better to stay off. I agree with Rhoody, "question why she actually has friends like that, or living together with people who are in or connected to that drug-circle" before barging in with your knight and shining armor. A 17-year old Filipina may not be a innocent as they used to be.

If there is a way to get the perp sufficient skin lightener and hair bleach, maybe the local PNP will think he is a foreigner and put him the Brian Aussie 120k bail program.

I have to say if it happened to my sister-in-law or someone close, I would have to take something to calm myself down instead of doing something stupid.....

I am about 100% sure you would not do anything stupid if that "person close to you" decides to have druggies as boarding-mates and friends. you play with fire you have a chance to burn yourself.

The day I believe a 17 year old drama queen in the PI more than 20% is the day I can be sure that I lost my mind...

to repeat myself, there is surely so much more to that story, but...

I rather question the parents or guardians who obviously don't give a sh_t in what strange circles of friends her under-aged daughter hangs out and stays with.

I concur, given it is what it is in the PI. I had an unhappy experience in California where my daughter, while in college, got onto drugs. I found out the guy who was providing (not a big time dealer) and told him he will walk around a corner and I will bust both his kneecaps with a baseball bat if the ever gives my daughter anything, and he can't do s__t about it. He disappeared but of course the story is a long one. Dealing with those experiences when it comes to drugs is pure hell....
