Three men were meted life terms yesterday after being found guilty beyond reasonable doubt of violating the provisions of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Regional Trial Court Branch 30 presiding judge, Crescencio Tan Jr., found Antonio Chan, John Philip Kirit, and Michael Tanamor guilty, and fined them 500,000 each. He also ordered them to be shipped to the national penitentiary in Muntinlupa to serve their prison terms.

Chan and Kirit were arrested with 0.27 gram of shabu in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Tinago, Dumaguete City, by Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group on October 30, 2013. Tanamor was nabbed, also during a buy-bust, on February 25, 2014, at Poblacion 1, Dumaguete, with 0.61 gram of shabu.

Meanwhile, Tan acquitted Jennifer Mendoza, alias Jenny, who was arrested November 15, 2013, near a bank at Robinsons mall in Dumaguete, reportedly with 237 grams of suspected shabu.

He said the prosecution failed to establish the substance allegedly confiscated from Mendoza due to an unjustified gap in the chain of custody, thus militating against a finding of guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

Life for less than a gram? That is excessive. I guess it is easier to throw them away for life than deal with the root cause of drug manufacturing, selling and use.

I'd take that sentence rather than Malaysia! I see they are about to execute 10 foreigners inc one from the ph by firing squad!
If anyone reads the laws from there they are quite savage and there are many laws with the death penalty.

I'd rather be shot than sit in a third world prison for the rest of my life.

SO..... so..... if you are in prison for the rest of your life, we should come and shoot you rather than risk our life with a jail break?

It would probably be easier to send a "boulevard virgin" with 500 P bribe (or would that be bride) to have your guards look the other way.

By the way, what are you planning to do to be put in a third world country prison for life?

There are 10 convicted drug dealers waiting to be executed in Indonesia now that would love to be given life imprisonment I am sure. There are 10 of them that will be lined up in front of a firing squad, yes that's right, the Indo's shoot them, very civilised :rage:......

Among the 10 there is one Filipina and two male Aussies.
