Looking for the garden variety lime..slacked lime if thats all I can get..or crushed calcium carbonate.. I have seen what looks like chunks of land plaster sitting along the side of the roads riding thru the hills here and there. So someone knows they need it.. but I cant find a source..anyone..thanks ahead !! Ed
There is a place one block past the Public Market on the national highway, east side of street. They sell fertilizer. rice, etc. they may be a place that would have lime. If they do not have it then you could ask, most merchants will be happy to direct you to someone who has the product you are looking for here.
// Thanks Dave..I will send my wife and sister in law down there on a motorbike and let them dig around again thanks
Wife will still go by there today.. does anyone know the local word for lime? She just told me today that the problem seems to be she doesnt know the local dialect word for lime.. she was born here but doesnt know it and says people give her that *you have 2 heads look* when she asks for lime or lime stone..or calcium carbonate. I find it very hard to believe that so many people dont know what it is when they need it so badly for their food to grow in such acidic soil. sure all the greenery drops down to natural minerals etc BUT its sooo acidic it kills the roots of small plants..they have enough problems with insects and rodents...I have birds eating my tomatoes and rats & mice climbing my corn to eat off the stalks !,. Thanks Ed
Google: "What is Anapog" It is the word used in Cebu area and probably here too but I suggest you google it to see if it is what you are looking for
hey baltoed... awhile back, i asked alex at greenfarms for some ag lime and he gave me a bag of 'something' but i don't remember what he called it (lime, cal, gypsum, etc?). i texted him this morning but no reply yet. you could try alex amor 225 -2732 +639209248353 i'm curious what you're calling land plaster. mirriam-webster says: Land plaster definition, finely ground gypsum, used chiefly as a fertilizer. i'd like to find calcium carbonate and that might be what i have. if so, i could give you a few liters. thanks.. norm : ))~
Hi Norm..well they are both calcium.. I will take either.. one is calcium carbonate.the other is calcium sulfate.. The PH needs to be lower out of the acid stage to be more friendly to plant life. CaSO4 and CaCO3 I have a small amount of calcium carbonate that is food grade that I use in brewing to change the PH of the water that Im using to get closer to the local water that an original beer was made. To reproduce say a beer like Guiness Stout I need to chemically change the properties of the water used in it. So that is more treasured to me and too expensive to throw in the garden..lol
apparently the lime is sold by one of the pot vendors in Daro..*one of* was the best she could tell me..The granular rock comes from Camanjac
Then go to the biggest pot vender in Daro, and if he does not have it, then they are usually more than willing to point you in a direction for someone who may... In fact I think most times they would prefer to say "out of stock" and not have to look for something, and just send you off to someone else. O-|
