We're looking for a helper who lives at home (not live in) to help out with our condominium (which is occupied about half the time) and clean our small office daily.

Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

Harry can I say Welcome, to DI from another Member. You might find it useful if you were to say Which area you are Residing. Age group and Marital status of the help you are looking for, most of us can point you in the right Direction but we would need to know a few things before we go offering you help that may have an effect on your Safety and Security. Maybe a little Introduction in the General chat will give us all better chance to know who you are and this will help us to help you.

    JMH Thoughts here Harry

If you live in a area that has a clan type family structure, try to tap into that structure. I am not referring to political clans, just an area where everyone is related to one another. Hiring someone locally has it benefits. Sometimes family pride causes the worker to be motivated to be good helper, but no guarantees. If the helper is from the neighborhood then they can walk to work. Get know as many people in your neighbors as you can and act as a good neighbor.

Thanks for the reply — I live in Dumaguete proper in a condo located on the Boulevard.

What we're looking for is someone who is a bit older and has some experience — can do some errands at the fresh market, etc. I don't really have an opinion on marital status, etc. Just that they be reasonably proficient at the household/lavendera type thing.

Security shouldn't be a major concern as we have a pretty decent mechanism for screening, just no great way to recruit as most of our employees are young, recent grads who don't have access to word of mouth for this sort of thing.

Harry! with the Amount of Bars etc you visit, I wonder f you are missing something here? Have you asked any of the Staff you have encountered on your travels if they can point you in the right Direction, I mean they all have Families, Sisters mothers and the like. Seems you just may be Missing that Golden opportunity here. With Recommendations from them I hardly think they would give you a Bum rap as their own Survival in a job would be at Stake

    Just a Thought.

    Jack,

A good point. I had imagined the forums would be a more targeted approach with some folks who had ideas on domestic assistance with expatriate experience (kind of a provincial version on the American Women's Club thing in Manila).

    Thanks again for the suggestion,

    Harry

Well Of Course Harry, but most of us live on the outskirts and many of the people who work In Town live a lot closer, I was thinking more of the travel aspect. Many Filipino's do not like the travel when it is raining and live outs can have the Habit of just not turning up. If you can get help with a Family Connection a replacement can be found a lot easier and a lot Quicker than one from Valencia, Bacong or Junob & Batiguel So to me it seemed an Ideal Starting point.

BTW I am not sure, as you have not said, how long you have been here, but there is really no point in comparing the people here to Manila, The City may be Growing and seems to be advancing but in reality, it is still in the 50's and the thought process is the same. Negros Oriental is in a world of it's own and Dumaguete is it's Hub, Going round and round & round and really getting nowhere.

But don't you just love it and the "Gentle People" here o_O:eek:

Helpers really are just blind luck. I've had some highly recommended be horrible at their job and the best one I have ever had had absolutely no previous experience or references. I would be scared to even recommend one that was once a good helper for me. I am not willing to throw my name on the line due to the unreliability of workers here.

I may qualify. I am a bit older and have some experience. Would you hire a handicapped senior citizen, reasonably proficient guy? Of course being I am from California I expect you to pay me that state minimum wage which is $9.00 an hour, going to $10.00 1/1/16. I will be taking both U.S. and Philippines holidays and will take the usual town and barangay as well as my own fiesta days to get drunk, as well as my once a year trip to my province which is San Diego California that you will pay for. I expect to receive my 13 month pay in advance each year. One final request, please provide a cute assistant for me with masseuse skills and if I can't go home for a mid-week conjugal visit then of course she would be accommodating. PM me, if interested.
