I have been told ..possibly not accurately..that acasia wood/trees are under some kind of protection. That been said I think that they are still cut and harvested..maybe illegally or otherwise. I never asked when I got them in Capiz. I got sacks of sawdust and wood chips from that tree specifically..and quite cheaply actually. Any ways..it seems that my last half sack went off moldy got wet and crap like that. And we just spread it on the compost pile.. Now I need some kind of local wood to smoke with. Acasia is the only one that I know of and is a cousin of mesquite in SW USA. Smells almost exactly like it when using. Maybe someone might know of a furniture maker or even a govt tree cutter that might have to take out a limb of one that I might be able to..err *percure*?? Any pointers will and can be helpful. Just a headsup..Mango wood is like the worst toxic stuff you can use..funny seeings how its a fruit tree. Not like Im going to find a apple or peach orchard around here to get winter wind fall from. Fruit and Nut trees..true nuts not a cashew..Though Id love to nurture a cashew tree..Like to take a stab at the fruit of it and make a cashew wine.
I have a huge acacia tree beside my house...many falling bits and sometimes trimming (limb)..cab you use small pieces??
Limb would be grand..small meaning like 1 inch in dia to 3 inch in dia sure..twigs..well you could keep them and try smoking a bit yourself. like dumping a handfull on your coals while doing a steak or chicken pieces..get you hooked ..slowly ...lol Im actually doing some local research to make a small smoker box..one that would fit on top of my grills..yes plural..lol. more of a hot smoker/grill than a cold smoker for cheeses and such I hope someone knows some other fruit and nut woods that might make a decent smoke. When I complete this small smoker I will give dried corn a *go*. been wanting to try it for a long time already

Bunachita 9:10 am | Saturday, July 26th, 2014 1 6 0 IF you’re traveling south of Cebu on Monday, traffic may be heavy as work crews start cutting down large roadside trees that are decaying and need to be removed as potential hazards. The tree-cutting will be done during off-peak hours. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 7 yesterday sought the help of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7 in managing traffic in the area for this activity. During Wednesday’s conference, it was agreed that the cutting of seven century-old Acacia trees along the road in Naga City would be scheduled this Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Meanwhile, the cutting of 41 trees including three century-old Acacia trees in the next town of San Fernando road, is scheduled on August 1, 2, 3 and 4. Most of the trees are in an “advanced stage of decay on its basal portion, branch and trunks,” mostly because of ads and other materials nailed to them. The DENR also wrote to Visayan Electric Company asking the utility to send its boom trucks and “other necessary equipment.” - See more at: Acacia trees in Naga to be cut Monday | Cebu Daily News
