Can’t find fibreglass insulation for a hot application locally, the only insulation here is a foam covered with silver, only good for cold application
Citihardware had it a while back. Maybe they can order it? I know you can get it in Cebu, but I don't know the name of the place. You can also get it in Iloilo - Far Eastern Hardware on Quezon Street in Iloilo City. I put fibreglass insulation in my house here in Perth many many years ago. I wish I didn't. Gone up in the roof several times for various reasons...installing fans etc...upgrading antenna...like to keep my TV antenna there...lasts longer...Anyway, pretty obvious that the fibreglass is breaking down....and wonder what it's doing to our lungs as it drifts into the house....I'd take foam and foil covering any day. Insulation is insulation....it works in hot or cold....that's what it does... Welcome to NQ, Inc. Not a fan of fibreglass....
I had yellow batts in AU with no problems, the foam style here would I am sure break down in time, emitting gases. I need fibreglass for use on a gas oven that was not insulated from the manufacturer.
Garbonzo, just curious but was your fiberglass insulation the kind without a tarpaper or foil backing? I know the stuff without breaks down with moisture and here we call it sono-batts and only use it in interior walls for sound insulation. Even the tarpaper and foil back fiberglass needs to be tacked to studs or joists to keep moisture out if it doesn't fit very tight.
Just had a chance to read the link you supplied very helpful indeed, a very good read, it’s a bit like the solar passive insulation we use in Australia
Hi Robert, this was done thirty years ago....fibreglass slabs didn't have any backing at all. Was sold in huge bags, which were packed with sections about half-metre square to lay in the roof. Do insulate well.....but I'm wondering what the long-term effects of it may be. As it stands, we're likely to knock the place down in a year or two, subdivide the block of land we're on - and build a couple houses on it. One for us and one for renters. Bit undecided about building on our subdivision lots near Bacolod.....pretty happy in Oz to be honest....Not sure we'd get the use out of a Bacolod home to make it worthwhile.
