Can anyone tell me why a piece of registered mail, postmarked March 19 here in Dumaguete, just arrived at my home in Dumaguete today, May 2?? 6 weeks??!! Maybe it is a lack of personnel to deliver the mail? I am going to go to the post office tomorrow to inquire.
Ask your mailman, to see what kind of lame excuse he gives you. We can all use the laugh. Seriously though, they seem to deliver mail only when they feel like it.
Inquiring minds want to know While you inquiring could you ask why I did not receive my Christmas card, sent in December 2012, and why my Social Secuirty questions never arrived, so my SS was cut off for a while. (Hint: Do not let SS change you address to the Philippines, it will cost you nothing by time and money)
As a side note, I know a couple in Bacong who takes VERY good care of their mailman. Amazingly enough they ALWAYS get their mail, and promptly too! He gets a cheap present for Christmas and is invited to their yearly Christmas party which is a huge to-do. I think they give him 10 packs of 3-in-1 coffee occasionally too. And as a bonus, all the surrounding neighbors get their mail and on time too! Yes, you shouldn't have to pay extra for a government service, or bribe to get good service, but hey, it works here, and if it's important to you..... Neighborhood "sponsor" a mailman project?
Bacong now has no home mail delivery (no more postmaster). There is a clerk at the P.O. Mon-Wed-Fri (I think he goes to Valencia to help out on Tue-Thur. The clerk said if you leave him your name and cell phone, he will text you if mail arrives. The U.S. IRS mailed out my large overpayment refund check to me on Feb 28 and I have yet to receive it, so I drop by the P.O. Mon-Wed-Fri. I am not sure if or when Bacong will hire a new post master. I live not too far from the P.O. so no big deal for me.
Well, Valencia could use the help. My wife went up there one time not long ago to inquire about something we were expecting. They had one sorter in a room with stacks and stacks of undelivered mail, so much that there was little room for walking around the room. This person is both the lone sorter and delivers the mail. I have moved 4 times in 3 years in the Dumaguete/Valencia area and have made all my address changes with the U.S. Social Security Manila and the U.S. Embassy in Manila via email and have not had any problems. Try keeping them up-to date, it's worked for me. One contact email is fbu.manila@ssa.gov. Give it a try. has worked for me. Getting mail is another issue. So far I have gotten everything I know of. I only get a couple of things a year, but so far so good. But if and when I see the mail delivery guy again I will now start "tipping" him. I would guess he is not over-paid. Have a great day.
When going to the Dumaguete Post Office and you don't find your package or mail in the main lobby, go to the side door out-side and up the stairs where they do the sorting. Tell them what barangay you live in and the person that handles that one may be of help. Again, it has worked for us. I let my asawa do the talking usually. Politeness and a smile helps.
