A TWO-DAY mobile passport service will be done in Dumaguete City on May 5 and 6. Personnel from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Bacolod Consular Office will be at the Robinson’s Place to entertain applications for new and renewal of expired passports from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. of May 5, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. of May 6. Jessica Layumas, of the Dumaguete City Tourism Office, urged applicants to visit the city tourism office immediately to be listed for the mobile services. “Our staff will also pre-evaluate documents to determine which papers are lacking, if there are any, to avoid delays and confusion during the processing day,” she said in a statement released by the City Information Office. The tourism office has requested the DFA to once again bring their fourth mobile passport services in Dumaguete City following the high volume of requests from the public. Since it was first held in the city in 2009, more than 2,000 passports have been processed by DFA during the mobile services held in the city in coordination with the tourism office. This equates to an average of 700 passports per activity, a figure that DFA says is unprecedented in the department’s experience during its mobile passport services in Negros island. The statement from the City Information Office quoted DFA Bacolod Chief Executive Officer Joselito Blas as saying that the lowest turnout they have had was 28 applicants in a local government unit in Negros Occidental. Layumas said the city tourism office will continue to facilitate more mobile passport services in Dumaguete in the future. The two-day passport service in May will also kick off the month-long celebration of Santacruzan Festival in the city. (PIA) Mobile passport services in Dumaguete set in May | Sun.Star Larry
Good Info. my boss did her Passport renewal during the last session in November at Robinsons. of course she had no priority number... However, we gave it a try and went there at 9 am. With falling in line and waiting it was done in 10 hours and at 7pm she was back home. A long exhausting day, but still very convenient to have all done in 10 hours without traveling. The passport was ready to pick up a few weeks later at the Dumaguete Tourism Office. Now she just needs a proper job with good income, that she can use it...
Nice how our good local papers always see fit to announce such events the week after they were here. Luckily I stumbled across it in the Sun Star! Larry.
The princess took advantage of the last one held at the convention center in November. Dropped her off at 7am and she was done at 10PM at night. 15 hours later and their printer broke so no receipts and they had one camera only. NO food so applicants left in shifts to go out and bring back jollibee etc. No trash cans anywhere so the Princess took photos of the 4" thick stacks of trash all over the floor from paper, food, water bottles, etc. I'll spare you those. Luckily, she did get the passport and we are now on a 3 week trip through cambodia and thailand. Mark
