There was a recent thread about living on $860 in Dumaguete. I thought it would be interesting to do an anonymous poll to see the average monthly expense for living in Dumaguete.
You are anonymous, so no one but you is going to know. When you create a poll you can specify that it be anonymous, which I did. No interest in income. You can't see anything other than the number of people selecting a specific amount. Didn't do a breakout above 2500 to keep all the millionaires from standing out. No problem, if you don't participate, but did want to let you and anyone else know you are anonymous.
There are so many variables such as size of family, children (if any) school expenses, medical prescriptions, distance from town, entertainment choices, and on and on that makes a such a poll lack a meaningful comparison in my opinion. The cost of living here keeps going up but I guess that is true most anywhere.
I agree that my poll is oversimplified, but some data is better than no data. There are survey sites where you can ask a series of questions, like survey monkey, but it's tough enough to get someone to click on one thing, let alone a series of questions. I'd rather have simpler with some data, then no data at all. All the things you mention would increase the monthly spend, so it's a conservative poll.
I fixed that. I usually spent about $1500-2000 (USD). That was as a single male with no kids. I spend about $700-$1000 to maintain my place in Valencia while overseas. This includes a gf and her kid living in my house but does not include the price of maintaining that relationship (2-3 vacations a year outside of the Philippines).
First time doing a poll, so I asked Wrye83 to double check my work and he corrected the error. I interpreted being available publicly to mean that a non-members (people not logged in) could see the results, not that you could see how an individual voted. When the subject came up, I did poke around and wasn't able to see the 3 people who had voted at the time. However, I might not have click on the right thing to see that. I apologize for the confusion on my part.
Understood. I cast my vote after the error was corrected. Good poll. Simple and to the point. Now lets see how many vote.
I'm thinking about 1500 is the golden mark for most. For some may be a couple hundred under and others a couple hundred more. I'd of been interested seeing a $1400-1700 range but to late now. Someone today wanting to live on less then $1k is fairly insane. Better to live in some tiny place in a small town.
