Went to see Insidious 2 today, thinking it is Monday afternoon, most people are at work or school, should be a relatively nice time to go. Boy, was I ever wrong!! I have been to the movies a lot here, so have experienced the unpleasant cell phone conversations, the rude chattering, and the inconvenience of late-comers. But today it was blood-curdling, ear-shattering screaming I have never experienced before in my life!! And I have been to hundreds of horror movies, many high tech haunted houses, and ridden multitudes of scary rides!! What I experienced in that movie today was incomparable!! Ridiculous describes it. It was as if they were having a competition who could scream the loudest and which groups could talk the loudest!! I complained and the guard came and reprimanded some but went back out and it immediately started back up. I finally had enough....couldn't hear the movie or follow it, so I went back out and asked for my money back after explaining why. The manager came and told me there was nothing they could do about the noise (more like nothing they WOULD do), and no, they would not refund my money. After a little more "discussion", he relented and told me I could have my money back. Unprecedented, I think, because I know one thing...they do not give money refunds here!!
So, after reading your story, I had to congratulate myself that in all the time I am here I have managed without going to the movies at all, first thing I have problems with, are the movies that are being shown nowadays, couldn't care less for most of that c..p that comes from the US anyway but imagine, I have actually not experienced a "surround" movie until now (can you believe that?). The next thing is, what you described in your OP and that they do not have a morning screening where you could eat (not that I care for that either) lunch afterwards and be home in the afternoon... We also don't have "widescreen" at home, 4:3 is still fine even now that many programs are broadcast in 16:9 and the "surroundsound" that makes it almost impossible to follow the dialogs, that's really annoying though... and no, I am not past 60 yet...
Probably most of the noise was from the bayot? I seen the Niki Lauda movie today no cell phones no noise, if all the foreigners stick together and complain to the cinema manager then maybe just maybe they will do something about it, I mentioned this in another thread a while ago, that I got the manager to try do something about it, as a very large percentage is paid for by foreigners, that’s the foreigner and his lady and possibly family.
No, not bayots. A few large groups of what seemed to be college-age and/or high school age kids....not sure if the groups knew one another or not
I went to the movies and watched a scary movie a month or so ago. The girl warned me prior to buying the ticket that there is usually a lot of load screaming. I said "how bad could it be" (she gave me a "you'd apparently be surprised" look) and gave me my tickets. I must have had the most respectful group of moviegoers that exist in this country that night because there wasn't much more than a couple gasps and some slight laughing after being scared (which is quite normal anywhere). I didn't even have to turn on the cell phone jammer......the only cell phone pulled out was mine for a brief second (forgot silent mode.....whoops). I was the one getting dirty looks from the locals.
One of the funniest things I remember doing when I moved down was when we lived next to the grave yard in Santander, in a very dark area by the sea. I put on The Exorcist directors cut on DVD and had some locals over to watch. No one dared to go home that night.
