That explains why the influx of overseas workers.... degree holders became domestic helpers or nannies abroad.... Hotel and Restaurant management grads became hotel maids or waitresses on cruises - we do cruise once a year and really enjoy their service and hospitality.
The only degrees that would be feasible and have decent work abroad are engineers and medical related fields. Texas and Cleveland hire hundreds of nurses from PI and engineers are hired to work in the middleast. Some mathematical and science geniuses would have the chance to be qualified as exchange teachers in the US through Teach America Program.... other than that, thousands would end up earning at least 10,000 pesos/mo abroad, venture into the unknown foreign land and endure 2 years at minimum of being away from families ... it's a rat race for these graduates....

The reason here that college degree holders end up as domestic helpers / labour is that most of them need at least that number of years in school so they can actually speak and understand enough English to get the job.. High school graduates are qualified but they just don't have the language ability, nor do their teachers.. Now with the 12 year education plan it will only get worse as the first 3 years will be in the local dialect.. example could some one please show me some grammar books in Visayan or Ilongo??? Sorry there aren't any.. start with English, the kids are going to learn the local dialect anyway so whats the problem.. English is required anywhere in the world to get a job-----well except in France but thats another story.. we know how they are..I have worked overseas for over 30 yrs and honestly i don't find Pinoys any smarter than Indians, Sri Lankans, Arabs, Thai's.. just that they have the language skills,, when they loose that its back to climbing coconut tree's and trying to catch a fish .......O-|
