i will be in Dumaguete for one month within the next couple of weeks. can anyone can suggest a reasonable alternative to a hotel? are there apartments available month to month? i need a place for myself only - nothing fancy just a shower and bed. i will pay cash up front. thanks, marc

Bethel is ok if you don't drink, don't smoke and don't want to have fun.Yes it is on the blvd but you will get no discount or monthly rate there. If you stay on the blvd the posted rates are the only rates

Do not sell the Bethel House short. Yes, it is no-alcohol and no tobacco. Isn't that a wonderful change? There is NO prohibition on fun, however.

The former are available in abundance in the immediate neighbourhood - all along the Boulevard strip. It's wonderful to return to a peaceful place where you will not be disturbed by a bunch of loud, smelly drunks. Think about it.

In this world you can negotiate anything, including a rate at the Bethel. You just have to give it a try.

I would rate the Bethel in the top half dozen hotels in Dumaguete.

I stayed at Bethel my first trip to DGT. I will never make that mistake again. It is the only hotel I have ever stayed in anywhere in the world that tells its guests how to dress. (No sleeveless shirts, no high-heels and definitely no mini-skirts for ladies---if your girl isn't into 'dusters' and habits, forget this joint!) The owners are Holy-Rollers and they post it all over their hotel. Good for them, but not for me. Not only do they not allow alcohol, tobacco, sleeveless shirts or mini-skirts in this EX-Hospital hotel, you also may not stay with someone of the opposite sex to whom you are not married (their POSTED Policy...it is literally in writing all over the place) but you may also not bring playing cards...God forbid you may decide to gamble??? Also, visitors of the opposite sex have set hours? Is this an elementary school or a hotel?? And many other rules. I have never seen anyplace like it and hope I never do
    again.

By the way, this 'Top Six' Hotel has PLASTIC furniture in the rooms and charges one of the highest rates in town in addition to passing on a Testament of Rules by which you are expected to abide for the privilege of being their subject.

Marc, my advice would be to stay in a Hotel (Bethel, Palwa, Obdulia, CoCo Grande just to mention a few) for a few days and look around find the place you like...

I wouldn't stay at Bethel for a long time, just as it would be expensive.
A friend of mine was just staying there with his girlfriend. One thing he likes that they have "real" beds, not that foam crap.
Anyway, each printed paper in the Philippines has more worth of ink than the content has...
I can ensure you he is not married (and he most likely never will)... the definition of miniskirt is very flexible.. I would consider that as one and there was no problem at Bethel with that... hmmm and we had a beer in his room... so I think I won't go to heaven now.:( But thats ok, none of my friends is up there anyway...
