Here is an email from a friend who adopted a Philippine child. Social Security laws USA have changed.
    ey amigos!
I took Kjohn papers and SSI card to meet with Social Security about Kjohn monthly benefit. They said it was all ok and he would get $715. A month starting the 1st full month he was here (1 Jan 2015).
Then since I am over 65, and Grace is 32, they asked her if she wanted the benefits too? I said sure why not? So they both get a monthly benefit until Kjohn is 18 years old.
That means that both Jensen and Margie will get it too! They have to be here to get it. They both get the same amount and it is not deducted from your benefit. It is just based on it. If her bank account is here, she could still live there in Dumaguete.
Other than that, all is great here and we miss you all. Paul. and Kjohn and Grace. .

I'm not sure I am following. Are you saying that this gentleman has adopted a child and is asking for social benefits from the state/federal government after adopting a child? Or is this guy trying to add the child as a dependent on his taxes? What laws or "benefits" are you saying are changing here?

If the first question applies why is it that I, a tax payer, should pay for this man to bring a child and woman from another country? I really don't agree with social security benefits being passed on to children and spouses when the husband/father dies. It is a completely unsustainable practice and breeds an entire society of government dependents. Maybe I'm reading your comment wrong and this is not the case or what you are talking about here.
[DOUBLEPOST=1427081833,1427081716][/DOUBLEPOST]I'm sorry, I see that you said the SS laws have changed. Still early in the morning here.

What were the previous laws concerning SS?
